, leather furniture, car upholstry, do you refuse to ride in a vehicle with leather? not use soap? not eat fish, vegan? not use any cosmetic or medicinal products tested on animals????

I seriously doubt there are no animal byproducts in your life, and for each one of them an animal has suffered greatly, but as long as you don't see those big brown eyes of those "BABY" seals you can look the other way...

Thats impossible. There are hundreds of products that we use everyday, that are a result of animals/ tested on animals etc.

thank you!!!!

I'm all for the doing away of animals suffering needlessly there is no need to make them suffer... but picking out animals for extra special treatment because they cute'n'cuddly(I don't suggest trying to hug seal) and continue to torture others is very hypocritical...maybe we in Canada should launch a ban on the Australian sheep products and see how that goes over with them...

I wonder if the EU is going to ban Sanish beef products because of the inhumane treatment of cattle in the Bullrings? are the fashion houses of Milan, London and Paris going to give up their leather bags, belts, coats and shoes?...

Seriously, Europe is known for its fashion, much of which comes from animals.

ya, I'm sure since they think it's no biggie for our sealers to give up their industry the Euros won't mind doing the same with their fashion accessory industry...

And thus they need to take a political stand against animal abuse - and they choose a foreign country for that honor. Is anyone suprised by such hypocrisy?

When it comes to slaughtering seals, I don't see any difference with slaughter pigs, cows, chickens, fish, goats, sheep, etc.

Humans slaughter animals. If you are against that, fine, but picking and choosing which animal gets your sympathies is just arbitrary nonsense.

Hypocrisy and nonsense.... go stick it somewhere!

There are many bans in place that either wholly forbid or partly restrict the hunting, fishing. selling or holding of animals.

Only the seal hunt has received such broad publicity that even a person in Timbucktoo knows about it. This cruelty every year does more damage to our national image and the image of every single Canadian, than the bloody dollars could ever repair.

And Wyly, why can you not accept that there has to be a first or second and even third step in elimminating cruelty, before we go all out and completely ban the use of animals in any way?

Get out of the mud and be open-minded.

because the harvest is not cruel...and who are you referring to as "we" in banning the use of animals...I like my leather, I like my pork, chicken, duck, sushi...want to protest cruelty go protest the Norwegian and Japanese whale hunt, or the Japanese dolphin slaughter, chinese fur industry or the method of slaughter for Kosher meat, french foie gras, spanish bullfights...sealers have followed the rules set for them and harvest responsibly....
