Default Canada's sins...

How come we meddle in Afghanistan, worry over the Afghan women being kept uneducated and indoors, while at the same time we have enough human rights issues to cause Amnesty International to put us on their rap sheet? That's an embarrassment!!
Quote:
Amnesty International's annual report on human rights is criticizing Canada for its failure to protect native girls and women who are killed or go missing.

The survey also slams the Harper government for stalled native land claims, and for cutting funds to groups that advance women's rights.

As well, it knocks Canada's handling of foreign captives in Afghanistan and its refusal to intervene in the U.S. detention of Canadian Omar Khadr at Guantanamo Bay.
Harpers refusal to help Omar is a real stain on his character. How can a person, who has it in his hands to help, be so heartless and mean??? It's beyond my comprehension.

But wait, there is more..
Quote:
And once again, this year's report criticizes the use of Taser stun guns by Canadian police forces, noting last year's deaths of at least six Canadians who had been jolted by one of the guns.

The North American total of Taser-related deaths is now at least 366, Amnesty says.
They should be outlawed, or the strength of the current should be reduced. This is not a safe nor harmless instrument to subdue someone... it might work on a bull, but not a human being!

Amnesty International-what the hell, how are we supposed to do to protect native women and girls??? give'm all personal body guards?

Omar Kadr situation-stupid agreed Harper is an arse

Tasers-according to the company which manufacturs Tasers we are supposed to believe that these 366 people were going to die at that moment anyway, it was just a coincidence they died at the precise time of their detainment...I'd like to see the stats on how many people died "spontaneously" when detained before Tasers came on the scene(excluding those beaten to death)...ban them!

The RCMP Commissioner has said that Tasers should be used as the step before deadly force (gun). In other words they're not to be used to subdue an unarmed suspect. We'll see if that directive is followed or not.

As for Khadr when he was captured he was by definition a child soldier and should have been treated as such. Harper's a coward on this one.

I think the Taser has become the easy option for many police...

It's falling apart for the RCMP here on that airport Taser death. They've been caught in so many lies by the enquiry lawyers that the Attorney General said the door was open again to charges.

I don't understand is how the airport authorities got away looking so innocent...how can a man be so obviously lost and distressed for so many hours and no one made any attempt to help him, I think anyone would have been as distraught as he was after such a long time...

Amnesty International is a left-wing organization pushing a left-wing agenda. They have no credibility.

Natives keep filing land claims like kids in a candy store. At some point they should give it a rest and establish democratic, non-corrupt, and responsible self-government on the land they already have. Kudos to Harper for gutting the Kelowna Accord as well, which was the biggest hand out to natives in Canadian history.

Treat him like a child soldier, which means doing what exactly? Forget about his alleged crimes and return him to his radical mother and daugther. He is being housed in a good facility, and will be tried for his crimes. If Obama didn't aimlessly pause the military Tribunals for that period, he would probably already have his guilty sentance and be back in a Canadian jail serving it.

I would hope that Canadians like Jazz get a brain and read the numerous reports showing that Tazers in the hands of police have reduce deaths/injuries and increased officer safety, even if there were some isolated icidents of mis-use/malfunction. There mere brandishing of a tazer by an officer usually leads to compliance.

The next rational step is to get tazers unprohibited in Canada and into the hands of permitted civilians. Until then, I guess I and other civilians will have to stick to our rubber shotgun slugs for our non-lethal option to defend our home/property.

Rehab and reintegration, the same as child soldiers in Sierra Leon and other places they've been captured.
