There are a few charities in the US that raise funds to provide tuition for the children of fallen soldiers.

That is the name of one of them, actually. There are a few more, too.

I disagree. Although I believe the war in Iraq is a horrible waste of human life and I completely oppose it, I still think that the decision for somebody to put their life on the line for their country is a whole different kind of thing than say working at a paper supply store.

We need to treat our veterans better, most of all by keeping out of unneccesary or poorly thought out wars, but the very least we can do is to help absorb more of the financial costs that they and their families are incurring on our behalf when they are wounded or killed.

Well, keep in mind that the kid of a soldier who dies is in a family that lost it's primary breadwinner. Covering the cost of their education just makes up some small part of the financial cost our war imposed on that family. We made a mistake going to war, but that was our mistake, not the soldier's mistake, and we ought to be the ones paying for our own mistakes, not spreading it out to the families they left behind.

They get a lot of money by insurance, I guess.

A lot of these soldiers, who died in Iraq, enlisted there after the Iraq war started or they redeployed. If they did not care a lot of their kids, why should we?

that's the beauty of a charity. Either you give or you don't. When it is funded by the taxpayers, that is where you get into ethical/moral questions such as yours........

Thats a fair point, but, it can also be said that they care enough about their children to fight for their country, and maintain its safety (devils advocate being played).
