Yes, they fight for their country, good one

policemen, firemen, highway workers all know the risks when they sign on...Canada has lost a thousand soldiers over what 7 years ?..in Afghanistan and between Afghanistan and Korean War we lost how many? maybe a handful of soldiers....enlisting in the Canadian forces is a very safe job chances of getting killed are very very low... out of the hundreds of thousands that have enlisted since Korea few have died... serving in the Canadian Forces is traditionaly about year after year of doing absolutely nothing, it's a very good life I know I have a number of military types in my family...and I've seen a number of recruits interviewed who couldn't wait to get into action, they knowingly signed on hoping to go into battle...if someone does that I don't think I should be responsible for his families welfare...what would be the reaction of the public if firemen and police protested their jobs are dangerous? we'd tell them "then don't do those jobs"...

someone will say they're fighting for or freedom and to that I say Bull(*)(*)(*)(*)!...the Taliban is no threat to us and never has been I don't care what happens in Afghanistan that's for the Afghans to sort out... if someone wants to join up for adventure have fun but don't whine to me that people are trying to kill you...

about 1500 Canadians die at work every year if soldiers kids get free tution so should theirs...

Having read all these posts, I have to agree with you, wyly! We would be hypocrites otherwise. But it is still a nice gesture of those four universities and it is their choice alone.

shouldn't they also offer it to the kids of those permanently disabled?

funny thing is, if we were ever actually invaded there would be a good reason to join the military ourselves. its brave and (*)(*)(*)(*) what they do overseas, but its not done for me.
