DuH2 I read the other day that Ohio okayed it for these two muslim women to take their driver liscense's picture with their hajibs on saying that not allowing them to be pictured as such then it infringe on their religion freedom. I don't like how these people are trying to turn the American way around. It is alright with me if this was in a country that goes by this way but I don't want them to come over here expecting America to change to their way. We worked too hard to get America like this as far as how we got it to be futuristic and I don't want anyone taking America back to primitivety. If people want primitivety then America is the wrong place for it and their is plenty of countries that live by primitivety so they are able to find such a place that will allow them to have their driver's liscense as they wish, but on the other hand most of those places will not even allow women to drive. I don't mind people coming over here wanting to be American's and live the American way and speak the American language. But I do mind people coming over here trying to change America to the way of the country they left. When in Rome do as the Romans do.

Try taking a pictures for driver's liscense with a baseball cap on and you will be told to move it. The bottom line is we don't want to allow primitivety to get a foothold in America the advancing country. If you want to live by old rules from the old world then go over there to the old side of the world.

A baseball cap has the front bill on it that may cover the face - and I've had my picture taken with a scarf on. Maybe it's a 'girl ' thing!
Dressing modestly isn't primitvity - it's what the xtian right wants, too. Do you like the 'slut' look for girls over the age of 6? Quote:

The question I have here Josepha is what is so darn immodest about showing hair from the head or to show the face? I am sure that American women would not want any of this to get a foothold into our culture because in a few years down the road then all of them will be required to cover up in tents like the Iranian women have to do. In Christian religion the hair is considered the woman's glory and why would they want to cover up their glory? Imagine going through an airline terminal with a line full of women covered up in tents, it would be easy for any terrorist [man or woman} to get on the plane loaded with whatever they need to do what they want to do.

"Hijab" is any covering that fulfills the edicts of Allah. It is not a specific article of clothing.
The edicts for it are in the Hadith specifically the Sahih Bukhari. Christians used to cover their head when going to Church with a hat or scarf. The tradition has mostly died out but not fully. You might notice something about Nuns for example. Ask someone who was around in the 40's and 50's especially Orthodox/Catholic and they will tell you that women almost always used to wear a scarf or hat in Church. Jews still tend to cover their heads in Temple. Why women cover their heads in Christianity/Judaism/Islam? Well.... because of the Angels. .....and yes Islam beieves in Angels just as much as Judaism and Christianity. |
