Default Your privacy and rights are in jeapordy.

This is not a drill.

Regardless of the fact that this comes from the ACLU, and that some of you more closed minded people dont think they are credible only because they deal with fringe issues, this is a very important piece of information. The new Matrix database will seriously infringe on your rights and will allow the government to find anything, anytime, anywhere about you. This must be stopped now.[/url]

Default well...

Two issues:

1) The ACLU should leave politics. They only hinder any cause they bring up because they love protecting the "rights" of terrorists and pedophiles.

2) There is no "right" to privacy in the Constitution. The government has the right to collect info on its citizens. Sorry if you don't like it, but you'll have to propose a new amendment. In the days before 9/11 we could be lax about such things, but not anymore.

Do terrorists and pedophiles have fewer rights than any other human?

Amendment IV
The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

Why is that? Every human on the planet should have the same rights as any other human. Not to mention, if they've been proven guilty, they'll be in jail so it shouldn't really be a problem.

what if they are not, can they have the right to stand near a playground full of little children, or do they have a right to fly airplanes into buildings

I fail to see why.

Then they don't have the same rights as others, or those rights are being suppressed, yes?

I was just about to post this when I saw that you already got it up there. We do have a right to privacy under the constitution based on this Amendment. Though, as usual the government is working hard to stretch the Amendment to fit its needs. Once again the constitution is not specific enough to fully protect us from such an invasive action.

We'll be dealing with this crap for decades now. Terrorism, as bad as it may be, doesn't give the government the authority to trample on our rights. But who's to stop them when we've got so many ignorant lemmings in our country?

The government has censored our rights, most notably free speech, during other conflicts in our history, starting with the Civil War. Unlike those wars, the war on terror has no foreseeable end.

Every time the government makes a move to infringe on our rights, and they succeed in doing so, more doors open for them. If we don't make a stand now, it'll only get worse.
