Default home surveillance

I wasn't sure where this would fit in, but i am looking for information about home surveillance cameras. My neighbor has a camera placed under the overhang of his house, i can't tell for sure (i try not looking at his house), but it looks like the camera is picking up the view at the gate to my drive way. This bothers me. Why he even has it, i dont know, i have lived here almost a dozen years and it is just not the kind of neighborhood where things go on that you need to be watching things to such an extreme. BUt, if it makes him feel better, he has the right, but what if i dont want MY property watched?
I have searched on some legal sites but havent found much info. Does anyone here have experience with this kind of issue? Or opinions? What kind of world is this becoming when i cant walk in and out of my own property without my neighbor having it on film. IT is creepy...very,very creepy. My sister has suggested that i go to the spot in my yard where the camera points and flash him. My husband said thats not a good idea, i would probably be arrested for indecent exposure. Maybe i could get my day in court that way!!

have you tried talking to your neighbor. You could make it lighthearted, you know? Tell him that his camera seems to be pointing at your property. Maybe it just looks like it is...

Default .

well, that would be the logical thing, but this guy is not someone i can talk to other than "how bout this weather were having". A couple of years ago i got a little "irrate" with him because he had chemlawn come and spray his yard, and his yard is too close to the well house, whcih they are supposed to make sure of before they spray. THen he wanted to start a "home owners association" which was a laugh. He wants to live in a neighborhood where folks have all these rules about how tall the grass can be, etc. We generally do not need that type of thing..its s private street with a dozen 60's style brick ranches. I could go on and on. Basically he is the kind of guy who does everything better and knows more than anyone else...it's very hard to talk to people like that. I try to keep a sense of humor about it, one funny thing is his name is Mr. Looney, its the only thing i enjoy about having him for a neighbor.
I think i'll just start flipping off the camera and see if he responds to that . Then i will have proof that his camera is surveilling my property and i guess i will end up talking to a lawyer (luckily my mom is a legal secretary! but i hate bothering them).
I just get frustrated .....his paranoia is inducing my own, and i was just sitting here minding my own business.

Default ah, I see

He's your neighborhoods designated "annoying guy"... No home would be complete without one, you know?

Seriously I'm sorry logo (can I call you logo?). I hope he moves his camera on his own.

Default a flashlight

Get a really powerful flashlight, point it at his camera whenever you're moving past his camera. Or, get a light and permanently point it at his camera.

I don't like the idea of being surveiled. I don't know what the law says about it in this instance.

Default .

Thank you for this tip lyghtninrod! THat could work. It would be very understanable that i would carry a flashlight getting in and out of the gate where the camera points. And i'm a little clumsy and may not realize i am pointing the light at the camara.
Yes, i can see it now.
THank you...and for understanding this crazy surveillance stuff.

Default I'm pleased that I could help.

One reason I love the net is that it is so easy to get feedback, ideas, thoughts and suggestions that might not have been heard otherwise.

Glad I could help.

And I like my privacy!!!

Default ON the other hand...

I knew some folks in Salt Lake City who set up a similar video camera because there were ongoing gang activities at the house next door. They caught some great footage of a drive-by shooting at that house that was eventually subpeonaed and used in court to prosecute the perpetrators.

Default That's illegal here.

We have very strict laws against camera surveillance in my country. It does exist but a permit is needed and they are NOT easy to come. Cameras are reasonably common inside shops but they are never hidden, the actual camera may be har do spot but it's precence cannot be kept secret. There are very little surveillance outdoors and most of it is run by the cops gardening a few selected public places, mostly in our Capital city Stockholm and similar places. I can assure you that anyone that mount a camera to watch over a neighbor are in for a hefty fine and possibly jail time as well (up to a year). On the other hand, manned cameras (not remotely controlled) are allowed to film pretty much anything short of "peeping Tom" activities.

if youre pointing a light at the camera to damage it, flashlights arent going to do it. They dont supply the necessary UV radiation that the sun and a mirror do. Unfortunately as its a camera youll probably get caught doing it, before its detroyed. Dont yell at me if you get sued
