Default Wearing helmets on bikes

I understand that this topic probably won't bring up as much conservancy as say abortion, but for people under the age of 18 you will be fined(after the first offense) for not wearing a helmet on a bike. I don't me motorcycle.

This is a blatant attack of freedom. If a child not wearing a helmet gets injured than its his/her fault, by not wearing a helmet kids aren't physically harming others. Yet the parents have to pay fines because we aren't doing as requested by the government.

Also, children under the age of 16 aren't allowed to ride their bikes in the street (you know, the bike lane). So they could get hurt, when will we start asking children to make their own decisions?!

it is also illegal to ride your bicycles at night without blinkers. This law doesnt take into account that muggers prefer people riding bikes with blinkers at night, as they are easier to spot. my dad got pulled over for that once, but he got out of a fine by saying that when he uses blinkers he gets shot at(its true too).

in florida, bicycles are treated as cars as far as traffic law is concerned, which is ridiculous, as for example bicycles going over 5 in a school zone are basically not a threat, compared to a car going at an equivalent speed. id prefer the law be consistant, really(itll make for a clearer, less ridiculous law). Require all car riders to wear helmits too.

Default Ha, good stuff.

Im not sure that requiring helmets in cars would be less ridiculous.

Default So...

"This is a blatant attack of freedom.

...I guess having to wear a seatbelt in a car is also an attack on freedom?

"If a child not wearing a helmet gets injured than its his/her fault, by not wearing a helmet kids aren't physically harming others."

So if I run your kid over with my car I shouldn't have to pay the hospital bills right? I mean because it was your kid that didn't want to wear a helmet...

"Also, children under the age of 16 aren't allowed to ride their bikes in the street (you know, the bike lane)."

What?! I was riding my bike in the street since I was 5.

Default Wear an helmet, it's good for you.

Wear an approved helmet regardless of if the law try to enforce their use or not, it can save your life. Second, to treat bicycles "as cars" legally is stupid. Bicycles are something in between cars and pedestrians where I live and there are lot's of special bicycle roads that cars cannot use. Only bicycles and pedastrians may use them.

That is debatable. People under the age of 18 are not considered by society to have inherited all legal rights yet. That makes sense even though it might be frustrating. People under the age of 18 are guaranteed their human rights (as in the Constitution's Bill of Rights) but other legal issues vary. This is why people under the age of 21 are not technically allowed to drink. Drinking is not a human right and neither is riding your bike with no helmet. You have the right to freedom of speech, religion, and trial by jury. But the law isn't black and white. It recognizes age and the need for allowances and differences.

Yes, yes it is.

Two completely different arguments. It is your responsibility because the pedestrian (assumedly) had the right of way. You hitting a biker w/o a helmet has no bearing whatsoever for a violation of liberty on the bikers part.

Default Bikers...

So your willing to be a dumbass and not wear your seatbelt because it's an 'attack on your freedoms'?

A biker =/= a pedestrian. If some retard biker plows into my car and cracks his head open because he didn't have a helmet, not only am I not paying for his hospital bills, but I want compensation for the paint job.
