The last hate speech I removed was something about bringing back lynching of blacks simply for the crime of being black (clearly hate speech). In the case of Sunni, I let his comments stand, because he wasn't calling for the execution of ALL women (which would be hate speech), but rather, he was providing an example of Sharia (religious) law, in which the state (Iran), imposes execution for morality crimes. One can't very well call the law of the land (in this case, Iran), hate speech, can we? Though, his comments ARE distressing and alarming, for most of us. Sunni Man lives in the United States, he is an American citizen. Whether he agrees with the right of Muslims in another country to apply Sharia Law in this manner in their countries--he is (as far as I know) a law abiding citizen of the US. If he does in fact approve of morality killings--then he and I disagree. We in America also approve of morality killings. We call this 'capital punishment' and we support the killing of rapists and murderers. I don't agree with morality killings--I am opposed to the death penalty. The reason I continue to point out the differences between Buddhism and Islam is that some Americans are so ignorant of non-Judeo-Christian religions that they think any religion that had its origin in Asia is the same. |

Actually, rape is not a capital offense in most of the U.S., and the death penalty is reserved only for homicides that are deemed heinous. I'm not personally a fan of the death penalty, either, though I'm not going to spend a lot of effort and tears on murderers. What annoys me about the death penalty isn't killing a murderer, but the fact that it is actually more expensive than incarcerating them until death. It is not a crime deterrent, thus, it is a stupid waste of taxpayer funds.
Harsh, but what do you expect from someone like me? |

It makes no difference to me where he lives, and not every American is ignorant to other cultures. Like Catz said, rape isn’t a capital offense in most states and you have to have done something really sick to get the death penalty. I would have moral issues with it, if I cared one tiny bit about people who kill others. Frankly I'm of the opinion that if we started castrating rapists, they would suddenly drop dramatically.
Anyone who associated the peaceful perspectives of Buddhism with Islam is ignorant indeed.
