As i was just responding to the gay marriage thread, a thought struck me. A theme I hear repeatedly, particularly on the aforementioned topic, is privileges vs rights. And that there are actually people on here, who I can assume are American and probably represent mounds of others like themselves, who are very willing to decide who has certains rights vs privileges...
This, along with government interference that is happily accepted post-9/11, i.e. "Homeland Security," the patriot act, etc, in the name of protecting us from "them" is rapidly adding up. In absolute seriousness, I really think it is possible that our Country could head in the direction of Nazi Germany, which rose to power in a time of great fear. What makes it more likely is that people have automatically assumed the "it could never happen here" mentality. What made that happen was normal people, just citizens like you and me. We better watch ourselves. MB

That also followed a terrorist attack upon a federal building, which the then non Nazi political party used to rationalize the disarming and regulating of it's people. It was their own version of the patriot act. At any rate I think this point is wasted on this posting since I can only imagine that within 24 hours there will be more ridiculous "Your crazy" and "you don't have any idea what your talking about" opinions that it will look like you said you are a Nazi. Good luck on this post, since I think most people have elected to put all their common sense aside replacing it with xenophobic attacks and homeland pride. Once again much like early Nazi Germany. Well I hope they don't make us all wear embroidered Donkeys on our sleeves.

Most of you who post things negative that are happening go by what others tell them. The Patriot Act is a personal favorite since most of you talk about what it contains yet have never read a sentence. And then you act surprised when you discover that most of the items contained in it were allowed previously anyway.

Let's assume that the ball starts rolling on making marriage between a man and a woman only, and that the process begins on making it a constitutional ammendment. Also... let's assume that all the needed votes for it to pass are lined up already.
How long do you think this process will take? How long before it's officially an ammendment?
