What should the government's place be in society in general?

Basically, to have the least amount of involvement socially, and next to no involvement economically.

The government has five responsibilities. I can think of only four.

1. defense/protection. This includes the military and the police force.

2. property protection. An example is zoning such that you know when you buy a house a pig farm won't move in next door.

3. monetary system.

4. infrastructure.

5. Probably has to do with laws and the court system including criminal laws and traffic laws that serve everybody. I'm not sure if that is included in defense/protection.

But is a monetary system a constant result of the government?

Or are you saying that it's the governments responsibility to just initiate the monetary system?
