Default Protests continue in Nepal

Nepalese need the support of the international community as they strike for liberation from the dominace of an absolute monarch.

"Tens of thousands of people are back on the streets in Nepal's capital for a second day of mass protests, despite a shoot-to-kill curfew.
Protesters in one area where police opened fire killing three on Thursday have destroyed a police checkpoint.

The crowd had received news that one of those killed had been cremated without his family present.

The protesters, who have staged mass strikes for the past two weeks, want the king to give up direct rule.

King Gyanendra sacked the government and assumed direct powers in February 2005, saying this was necessary to quell the long-running insurgency by Maoist rebels.

Thousands of protesters assembled at several points on the edge of the curfew zone on Friday, after as many as 100,000 people rallied in the capital on Thursday."

They need to be careful at the same time though or the Chinese backed Maoists insurgency will make their life now seem pleasant.

With parts of the country controlled by the Chinese backed Maoists, and other parts controlled by the US backed Royal Nepalese Army, (both targeting civilians for ten years now) the population have not had a very 'pleasant' life for a considerable time....I guess thats why they are protesting.

No they are protesting about the King taking dictatorial powers and removing their abilities to elect their leaders.

I'm just saying they need to be careful that they don't so destabilize the situation that they give the Maoists and opening to cease power. If that occurs they will wish the King had stayed. Wouldn't likely be as bad as the Khmer in Cambodia but thousands will be "liquadated" thousands more sent to "re-education" camps and their entire nation will become nothing more then a pawn of China. They can also forget about protesting or having any say in their government.

Given what they are protesting I think its safe to say thats the last thing they want.
