Thats what they do. Store originals so they can generate certified copies for people to use to prove their identities.
You could probably get more information on how states store original birth certificate by checking with the State of Hawaii or your own state.

He's done in a little over a year from now and focusing on getting that done is vital to the country. Stirring up his citizenship is just noise vs completing the good work which was started in Nov 2010.

Personally, I think Obama is a fraud. An original in the vault? Not.
What is more important to me is how the MSM perpetuated the fraud of Obama, who he is, who he associates with, his being seeped in socialistic values from birth, his pastor, etc. The vault door has been opened by taking a look at who Obama is and what he stands for. I don't know what Wong said but it is my understanding that hospitals do not keep their records beyond what they are required to by law. So for instance the hospital where my daughter was born probably doesn't have any original records left.
But the original official birth certificates are not kept at the hospitals.

What is more a mystery to me is how conspiracy theorists just assume any evidence contrary to their beliefs just means the conspiracy is broader.
Two different administrations in Hawaii- one Republican and one Democrat- have confirmed that Obama's original birth certificate is on file in Hawaii, and that he was born there.
However, if the voters decide to elect someone else, then that of course is our Constitutional process, and you won't find me 4 years from now pretending that the new President is not the President just because I didn't vote for him.
