Default Umpa Lumpas and Slavery

I was watching "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" today and I noticed a line I had never noticed when I was a kid.

There is a scene in which Wonka is explaining the Umpa lumpas. He goes on about saving them from a wild country and bringing them to his factory. Does anyone else think that this is some sort of overt allusion to U.S. slavery?

Maybe a weak attempt at justification? or just a parallel? thoughts?

I can't find a video link, but if you can find it pleas post. The line is just after the pure imagination song.

Very true.

It's actually in the original. Right before Augustus (sp?) falls in the chocolate river.

Actually they came to work for Willy Wonka for an unlimited supply of Cocoa Beans. They opted to come here.

Isn't that how the first settlers of America tricked the slaves to come here?

In the most recent there is a whole scene about how he brought them over.

I think you would have to ask SuperBadBrother - he lived through it. I think they tricked the Africans that sold other Africans into slavery with cocoa beans.
