Default US to World: Thanks but no thanks

US officially rejects the idea of surrendering control of the internet to the UN or another international body.

Default ICANN

Last time I checked ICANN was handling domain registration and the like very well. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Default Did the US check first with Algore?

Did the US check first with Algore before deciding this? Afterall, he invented the Internet.

I know China's pretty upset over the fact that even though it has a popluation of over a billion people, the entire country only has roughly the same number of IP addresses as Stanford University.

Considering that the future number of Internet users in China will dwarf the current number, this could be a powerful bargaining chip in diplomatic relations.

Isnt Internet2 going to introduce 32-bit IP addresses?

If so, that will solve the problem for a very long time. There will be no shortage of addresses.

In any event, there is nothing to stop these other nations from developing their own internets...right?

Default Good decision

since when do we hand over technology for the UN to manage? What's next, they want control of our fighters? We got it under control, but thanks for thinking of us.

The result:

By the mid-19th century unique had developed a wider meaning, “not typical, unusual,” and it is in this wider sense that it is compared. The comparison of so-called absolutes in senses that are not absolute is standard in all varieties of speech and writing.
