Hitler had the majority of Germans support him, too.

Default READ and Think

Merlin X POSTED THESE 6 CHARACTERISTICS OF FACSISM:

If anyone who can read and think reads and thinks about these 6 characteristics they will see that they also very much describe Communism and actually describe any autocratic regime from the extreme left to the extreme right and also describes a monarchy.

Quote:
. There is a dictator who wields absolute power.

2. That dictator does not recognize individual rights.

3. There is only one political party.

4. Citizens are executed without trial for political offenses.

5. Expropriation, redistribution, or nationalization (i.e., government sanctioned theft) of private property.

6. Censorship.

Default CAREFULL OF FOOLS CONCLUSIONS

Rebellion, When people perform cursory comparisons of one system of government or constitutions from various governments and ideologies one can and will find those cursory matches. The Soviet constitution had in it some very nice sounding rights IF you took certain paragraphs out of the total context of where they came from. If you did not know that you were reading the Soviet constitution you would think that you were reading a very democratic or even a Western piece of work. The problem is that the Soviet constitution was not followed when it came to supporting the so called rights that it had in it.

You can also find things in the Soviet constitution which are 'liberal' and when implemented by Western democracies are sometimes economic safety nets. To conclude that just because a concept is in the Soviet constitution and is also being implemented in a Western democracy that alone make the concept Communist is a FOOLS CONCLUSION.

The policy of Workers Unemployment Insurance may be in socialist constitutions, so what does that fact alone make it bad ? You can find all kinds of parallels between the Soviet and our constitution. They copied a lot from us. Does that make ours wrong ? Does it make ours Communist ? Do you not realize that the Soviets ignored those parfts of their constitution which granted freedoms to the people ?

I have no love for Communists since members of my family were killed by Communists and sent to Siberia by filthy Russian communists so don't conclude that I am defending Communists or Communism.

Try not to fall into the folly of a FOOLS CONCLUSION.

I don't mind that you think that Dr. Britt's conclusions are erroneous. I've seen your conclusions and they are pathetic.

Oh, wow. Who should we take seriously? An intelligent professional who has actually studied seven examples of fascist governments and identified some common characteristics
or
an ignorant, not very bright, right-wing-wacko who pulls lists out of his azz?
Sorry dude, I think I'll take the intelligent professional over the RWacko.

I'm glad you're okay with it. Tolerance for different points of view is a good first step.

Well, then here is my chance to improve. Why don't you educate me? Let's start with Britt's list of fascist regimes, since you believe he is an authority...

Now, which of these regimes are vastly different from the six characteristics of fascism I listed? Which of my conclusions are "pathetic"?

Not everything that happened in the Soviet Union was exclusively Communist. I was making a point by posting that, which is that I also can draw parallels like the initial post in this thread. Which is indeed foolish. Not that it matters because the line between fascism and communism is a very very thin one.

When I said that "I've seen your conclusions and they are pathetic", I was rather obviously referring to all of your conclusions that you have posted in many debates and not just this latest 'list' that you apparently picked out of your nose. The thing is, merlx, Dr. Britt actually studied those fascist governments that operated in those countries at one time before he picked out specific identifying characteristics of modern fascist style governments. The list you 'picked' was too general, rather primitive and could as well apply to many kinds of governments, not so specifically fascism. For example, do you actually know whether or not Greece, in it's fascist period under Col. Papadopoulos, after he seized power in 1967 and suspended the constitution and dissolved the Parliament, was ruled by one absolute dictator or by a military junta headed by Papadopoulos? That's #1 on your 'list': "There is a dictator who wields absolute power". Did the Greek fascist regime fulfill, to any significant degree, #5 on your 'list' of 'signs': "Expropriation, redistribution, or nationalization (i.e., government sanctioned theft) of private property"? How about Salazar's Portugal? See, you don't know these things because you haven't actually studied the issue so your list is just hot air and adds nothing to the discussion. You just want to deflect attention from any kind of honest examination of fascist trends in America. Your list is a better description of an old style absolute monarchy than anything specific to modern fascism.
You started off by claiming that Dr. Britt's conclusions were "erroneous" but you never backed that up or tried to show us just how his conclusions are mistaken. Your sneering attitude towards scholarly studies by people who are better educated than you are is just so typical of ignorant rednecks.
