Default Women's groups urge CBS to jettison Tim Tebow anti-abortion Super Bowl ad

What goes around comes around. I remember the conservatives doing something similiar a few years back. Good for the women's groups.

Quote:
NEW YORK (AP) — A coalition of women's groups called on the CBS network on Monday to scrap its plan to broadcast an ad during the Super Bowl featuring college football star Tim Tebow and his mother, which critics say is likely to convey an anti-abortion message.

The ad — paid for by the conservative Christian group Focus on the Family — is expected to recount the story of Pam Tebow's pregnancy in 1987 with a theme of "Celebrate Family, Celebrate Life." After getting sick during a mission trip to the Philippines, she ignored a recommendation by doctors to abort her fifth child and gave birth to Tim, who went on to win the 2007 Heisman Trophy while helping his Florida team to two college football championships.

The New York-based Women's Media Center was coordinating the protest with backing from the National Organization for Women, the Feminist Majority and other groups.

"An ad that uses sports to divide rather than to unite has no place in the biggest national sports event of the year — an event designed to bring Americans together," said Jehmu Greene, president of the Women's Media Center.

CBS said it has approved the script for the 30-second ad and has given no indication that the protest would have an impact. A network spokesman, Dana McClintock, said CBS would ensure that any issue-oriented ad was "appropriate for air."

The controversy over the ad was raised Sunday when Tebow met with reporters.

"I know some people won't agree with it, but I think they can at least respect that I stand up for what I believe," Tebow said. "I've always been very convicted of it (his views on abortion) because that's the reason I'm here, because my mom was a very courageous woman. So any way that I could help, I would do it."...

Why should CBS care about an ad?

"celebrate family, celebrate life"

What is there to protest about in that message?

98% of people don't even know who Tim Tebow is or the story behind his birth. He is the most prestigious college QB in the game today, he has an ad during a football game celebrating life and family.

Yet someone wants to protest that?

CBS should keep the ad, the hell with the women's groups. They are only realy, groups of liberal women, not women in general.

Here's a thought. The women's groups could make their own ad. Problem solved! Stekim to the rescue.

Yes, get him, and his biased, r-wing political message the hell off the Superbowl or we will have Moveon.org do an ad celebrating freedom of choice!

You want to start Superbowl ad wars? You want to politicize the SuperBowl? Bring it on!

Eh I don't see what the big deal is. They want to pay for advertisement time let them. Personally I'd rather they play Pat Robertsons greatest hits so I'd have something to laugh at in the middle of the game. Still though these people shouldn't be complaining about the add. Free speech and such. Don't want to watch it, change the channel.

Exactly.

If the message the women's groups want to send to the folks at home is anti-family, anti-life, I say more power to them.

Here is a thought:

The womens groups are simply complaining b/c they can't stand the thought of another side having the ability to speak out. Like stekim said, let them provide their own commercial. What is stopping them?

Its bought and paid for air time. There is absolutely no reason why these womens rights groups can't do the same.
