Default Sen. Biden says Scrap SCJ Nonination Hearings

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060112/...co/alito_biden

This got lost with all the theatrics from both sides and the crying show put on by Mrs Alito. It's a hearing not a circus, one would think. And I'm not opposed to Alito but the crying wife routine that was too much. Give me a break ! This entire show leads me to agree with Joe Biden on this issue but not enough to support him for Prez...

Sen Biden says
Quote:
"The system's kind of broken," said Biden, a member of the Judiciary Committee considering the nomination of Judge Samuel Alito."Nominees now, Democrat and Republican nominees, come before the United States Congress and resolve not to let the people know what they think about the important issues," such as a president's authority to go to war, said Biden.
I treally agree with this statement
Quote:
"Just go to the Senate floor and debate the nominee's statements," the Delaware senator said, "instead of this game."

"Crying show"? Do you have any evidence for that assertion? If those leftist witch hunters treated anyone I cared about in that way (not to mention a spouse), I would be in tears- albeit tears of rage.

I understood that it was Sen Lindsey Graham's speech that made her "cry".
Besides Chappaquidic Ted who is a "leftist witch hunter".

By the way if either a lefthist, rightist, or centrist treated anyone I cared about I would be in rage also but tears well I thought that was a whinning liberal thing to do.........

She cried because she recognized the contrast between the monstrous character assassinations of the far left Democrats and the proper respect that Graham was showing towards her husband. She had undoubtedly been too stunned by what the Democrats were saying up to that time, and Graham made the situation seem less surreal. As for crying being "whining", what was she supposed to do?

Default nominees do not answer the questions entire show is crap

Force, I like Sen Graham but that was bunch of pablum and self serving staements that he threw up in his speeech. I have already gone on record saying that I deemed the questioning of Alito about that Carring About Princeston organization as stupid I would not have done that. On the other hand Alito was very coy with what he remembered about what he belonged to andd when he belonged. He also admitted to "padding" his resume'. to get a job.

Your "lefto witch hunters " as you call them were playing to their constituets.
And Sen Biden was right on target that the nominees do not answer the questions so the entire show is a bunch of crap.

Did you see how the Right wing witch hunters" put a hex a Mieryes or what ever her name was ?

Both parties are froth with their own bullocities.....

You obviously don't understand how these confirmation hearings work. Nominees aren't supposed to answer issue-specific questions. To do so would compromise their ability to maintain political neutrality on the Supreme Court, which is very important given that the Judicial Branch of our government is supposed to interpret the law and nothing more. I would also point out that these far left Democrats are not playing to their constituents. The average Democratic voter is well to the right of the average Democratic politician on social issues, and the politicians attacking Alito are far to the left of the average Democrat in Congress. They are playing to soft money donors and no one else.

You must be kidding. Or else you watched NONE of the hearings. Biden is one to talk. He was the biggest "showboat" of them all. Complete with the little Princeton cap and all his theatrics. He should be reprimanded for his abusing the system like that. He has 30 minutes to ask questions of Alito....and he spend 26 of those 30 minutes making a speech! He's right about one thing: he and his Dem friends shouldn't even have showed up because they never intended to respect the system.

Disgusting!!

Biden is a "dramatic"(hand jesters, etc) politician. It works and thats why he's there. Hitler was proabbyl the best at it..Churchill a close second.
Byrd does it too when he gets into Hellfire! and (*)(*)(*)(*)ation! speech's.

Bidens Idea-
While it is a political show its a "check" against having a nomineee be some yahoo and only subject to a single vote in the senate.
So no I don't think its a good idea to scrap it.

As for the Democrats- They destroyed themselves with that hearing it really was pathetic and you find very few defenders of their actions.
It was another blaringly loud example of why the Democrats need to sideline the Far Left in their party to become viable again.

Default SHHHHHH

Shhhhhh. Let them keep the "far left." That group is taking them down the tubes.....

It'll be a cold day you know where before the Dems ever get back into the majority at this rate.

Biden's just mad because their sleazy tactics didn't win. Yet again.

Default Demoncrats wanted to get out was if Alito had an agenda.

Forceofthe truth accuses me of not understanding the system
Quote:

I completely understand the system. What some of the Demoncrats wanted to get out was if Alito had an agenda.

Now if you or some of the others here actually think that Alito was nominated solely on his abilities as a judge and not on the fact that he is on the administration's side of key issues than I have a few bridges I can sell you. I know that others on this board just march in lock step with the administration, but I thought that you were a deeper and more of an independent thinker than that.

Well guess that I was wrong............
