1:45PM THE PRESIDENT meets with Secretary Salazar
Roosevelt Room

I'm wondering if one of the topics that Salazar will be discussing with the President will be the proposed wind farms in Nantucket Sound. Last week Salazar traveled to Nantucket Sound to meet with the Mashpee Wampanoag's and Aquinnah tribes.

The administration needs to resolve the issues of the Native Americans in the area who perform ceremonies and believe there are Indian artifacts in the area. The area is registered on the National Register of Historic Places. This in addition to environmentalists and people who live and vacation in the Martha's Vineyard area are an obstacle in the process of building the Cape Wind project.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...l?hpid=topnews

The Cape Wind Project is 130 wind turbines that will produce up to 420 megawatts of renewable electricity that would be built on Horseshoe Shoal in Nantucket Sound.
http://www.capewind.org/

If the Cape Wind project does become a reality it is said it will provide 75% of the electricity need for Cape Cod.

I wonder if there would be as big as an obstacle for hydro power. Perhaps in time they will utilize both technologies.

I'd love to be a fly on the wall for that one.
Go Boehner go.

Hope Obama eats a bacon cheeseburger for lunch with Joe Biden. Barack could stand to put on a few lbs... he's looking painfully thin lately. (or maybe he's always been skinny and I've just never noticed)

Michelle is keeping her eye on the fat folks...he would never be allowed to gain an ounce.
Since it is mentioned in his schedule about obesity we are still on topic.. Michelle gave legitimacy to that topic.

Funny you should mention that... just started a new thread about that very issue. Check it out. Interesting undertones in that project.

'It’s Done, Honey': Obama Signs Memorandum on Childhood Obesity
February 09, 2010 10:31 AM

ABC News' Sunlen Miller reports:

In the Oval Office this morning, President Obama signed a Presidential Memorandum in conjunction with his wife’s launch of a nationwide campaign to tackle childhood obesity, what he called the “most urgent” health issue facing the country.

“We think that this has enormous promise in improving the health of our children, in giving support to parents to make the kinds of healthy choices that oftentimes are very difficult in this kind of environment. And so I just want to say how proud I am of the first lady for her outstanding work,” Mr. Obama said as his wife looked on.

The memorandum creates a 90-day plan creating a task-force to provide “optimal coordination” between private sector companies, not-for-profits, agencies within the government and other organizations to address the problem of childhood obesity.

“I have set a goal to solve the problem of childhood obesity within a generation so that children born today will reach adulthood at a healthy weight,” the text of the memorandum by the president reads, “The first lady will lead a national public awareness effort to tackle the epidemic of childhood obesity. She will encourage involvement by actors from every sector -- the public, nonprofit, and private sectors, as well as parents and youth -- to help support and amplify the work of the Federal Government in improving the health of our children.”

The first lady at a noontime event today will formally roll out her “Let’s Move” campaign in the State Dining Room at the White House. As the president signed the memorandum at his desk, Mr. Obama said to his wife, “It’s done, honey.” She responded, “Now we work.”

Standing around Mr. Obama as he signed the Presidential Memorandum was Health and Human Service Secretary Sebelius, Interior Secretary Salazar, Agriculture Secretary Vilsack, and Education Secretary Duncan.

As reporters entered the Oval Office from the snowy outside, Mr. Obama joked, “don’t drag any snow in.”
Funny nobody's mentioned the cost... what's another billion among friends, right?

The feds spend $15 billion a year on nutrition in schools; the White House wants at least a $1 billion increase this coming fiscal year.

Just so I understand, judging by this post, to be "on-topic" for this thread the article just has to mention the time and Obama in it right?

And I am okay with spending a bit more on school lunches. The crap they served when I was in school was a disgrace. Lets spend a few more bucks so our kids can eat fresh veggies and decent meat. Not this frozen processed crap they serve now.
