Howard Zinn, American advocate for Palestine, dies

Boston, January 29, 2010 (Pal Telegraph) - The Jan. 29 online edition of the Washington Post has reported the death of Boston University Professor Dr. Howard Zinn,a noted author and a founding advisory board member of Jewish Voice For Peace, an American-based organization that works with Palestinians involved in the nonviolence movement. Dr. Zinn had suffered an apparent attack while on a speaking tour.

Howard Zinn was born to working-class Jewish immigrants from Austria-Hungary in 1922. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a bombardier during World War II, and saw combat over the European theatre.

Impacted by the war, he gained a reputation as an "activist historian" who frequently spoke out against U.S. foreign policy, supported the civil rights movement, and became well known for publishing a populist history book entitled "The People's History of the United States." He was an active opponent of the Iraq War, and a proponent of recognition for Palestine. He is survived by his wife, Roslyn, two children and five great-grandchildren.

I didn't know of Mr. Zinn. Sorry I missed him, sounds like fine person. R.I.P. Sad loss.

Victoria Brittain: The American historian, playwright and author encouraged younger generations to challenge the abuse of power
Thursday, 28 January 2010

The great Howard Zinn's death has the ominous feeling of bringing too close the end of an era when some western intellectuals had the magnetism of rock stars, and when their ethical and principled stand against the dominant powers of the moment moved millions to see things differently, and to act.

Good riddance. He's amongst the couple dozen most damaging leftwads America has been polluted with.

Maybe Chomsky next.

Dont worry, there are plenty of historians that are willing to relate history from the perspetive of the downtrodden these days. Robert Fisk, Noam Chomsky, Arundati Roy (sp?) and Michael Parenti to name a few. I can understand you would revel in this great mans death. He will mark down, for all of history to see, what frauds, murders and criminals are the people you support.

RIP Howard Zinn
