Oh but that's not important as long as we can teach creation myths in school. Who cares if our citizens can't competently analyze world events? If the citizenry was intelligent, our whole system would collapse. Don't we want America to become a place where firms compete for cheap no-skill labor and where elites make all the decisions?
From most of the stuff I hear, it certainly sounds like it.

Just because I have a short attention span doesn't mean

I don't know why we don't have a required math course for high schools which includes, balancing a checkbook, revolving credit, mortgages, escrow, simple tax returns....

I do think most of the study is BS though. Come on. They don't know if they have enough gas to get to the service station? LOL Then why don't we see them on the side of the road all the time?

The US is the land of the idiot. This country trails behind a lot of other countries(even some we would consider 3rd world) as far as education. There are a good number of countries where high school students have a level of education equivilant to that of many american college students. BUT, instead of addressing real issues like this, we worry about meaningless crap like gay marriage and partisan politics. It's all very sad.

Or educational system has de-emphsized the fundamentals of math, English, and science in favor of making sure the students have a positive self image. Wouldn't want to stunt their self esteem by making them be evaluated on what they know.
