Default Beijing, Tehran Expanding Cooperation, Iran Daily

While we are mucking around in Iraq our real enemies are working together!

"BEIJING, Jan. 27--Iran and China here Thursday discussed expansion of mutual cooperation as well as Iran’s peaceful nuclear activities.

In a meeting with the Chinese Communist Party’s international minister, Wang Jiarui, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Ali Larijani said the peaceful application of nuclear technology is among the legitimate rights of Iran.

"Iran suspended all its uranium enrichment activities two and a half years ago but the Europeans only showed us a mirage during this period. We now want to conduct nuclear research as the least expectation of the Iranian people," he said.

The SNSC secretary stressed that Tehran is ready to have extensive cooperation with other countries in this respect and China, as one of Iran’s friends, can observe Iran’s limited nuclear research, IRNA reported.

"Our sincere explanations have removed misunderstandings with the IAEA to a large degree and an IAEA delegation is now in Tehran," he said.
The Chinese official, for his part, expressed hope that the issue of Iran’s nuclear program would be solved through negotiations.

China maintains that the issue should be resolved within the IAEA framework and that it is the legitimate right of Iran to benefit from peaceful nuclear technology.
Talking to a CNN reporter on Thursday, Larijani criticized the United States’ approach. He added that the US criticism of China due to its support for Iran on account of Beijing’s energy demand indicates American bullying.

"Neither Iran nor China has violated the law," he said.
"Iran is a member of the IAEA and a signatory to the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. Therefore, we have to enjoy our rights."

He pointed out that Iran has resumed its nuclear research on a very limited scale and the IAEA inspectors are supervising the process.

Larijani said the main question is whether the hue and cry raised by the US and some of its allies is logical."

Default .

This seems to be the inevitable confrontation (US vs China/Russia) if the current course continues. Check your PM Ben-Franklin.

A lefty who is wishing for the days of Nixon. How ironic.

Were you even alive then?

The context of that time was that Communism was in full swing in both Russia and China. China had enormous sway with the North Vietnamese. It wasn't so much Russia that Nixon was driving a wedge between as it was North Vietnam and China.

Russia was China's rival, but they cooperated at some levels. Both sent arms to North Vietnam, but China had people on the ground in large numbers there as well. Ho Chi Minh was paranoid after Nixon's visit to China. He had a very hard time trusting China after that. The China/Russia dynamic essentially stayed the same for all appearances.
