Cheney was asked by chief Faux News fellator, Britt Hume, if he (Cheney) had the right to declassify information and Shotgun spun rightward with a vague 'yes' answer. But neither the POTUS nor the VPOTUS has this royal privilege. They must request the move in writing and the originating agency (the CIA in the case of outed CIA deep cover operative V. Plame) makes the decision.
If the Scooter's defense will really be, 'My boss declassified Plame's status and then sent me out to the media', then a paper trail will be extant. If it's not then Cheney's pellet day may no longer be one of "the worst days of (his) life." Executive Order 12958 Read it and weep, swabbers. |

Why don't you provide it for us?
You're wrong on at least part of what you claim in your post. First, there is no evidence that Valerie Plame was "deep under cover." In fact, Special Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald has admitted he didn't even look into that. And here's the kicker: On the morning early in May 2003 when Joseph Wilson and his CIA wife Valerie Plame met and had breakfast with NYTimes reporter Nicholas Kristof.......THEY were the first to leak CLASSIFIED INFORMATION to the press. Plus, as it turned out they LIED about it. So what you are saying is that it should have been okay for them to do what they did....and that the Vice President's office should NOT have been able to correct those lies. Yeah, I can understand why the Bush/Cheney haters are really upset that they would declassify the information at that point....show the REAL facts and fight back. You would have REALLY preferred those lies of Wilson and Plame stood as is. The truly horrendous thing about this issue is that Wilson and Plame have never been put on the hot seat about what they did.....and why. They've never been put under oath about their lies. Although Wilson was caught in some of those lies in the Joint Senate Committee Resolution on Iraq pre-war Intelligence. And the Conclusion from that report on this particular issue: "(U) Conclusion 13. The report on the former ambassador's trip to Niger, disseminated in March 2002, did not change any analysts' assessments of the Iraq-Niger uranium deal. For most analysts, the information in the report lent more credibility to the original Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) reports on the uranium deal, but State Department Bureau of Intelligence and Research (INR) analysts believed that the report supported their assessment that Niger was unlikely to be willing or able to sell uranium to Iraq." http://msnbc.msn.com/id/5403731/ So....at best Wilson's trip to Niger was a waste of time. The CIA report of his trip showed that his trip lent more credibility to their previous assessments about Iraq-Niger and uranium. So.....because his trip didn't prove....OR DISPROVE anything......he had no business going to the press, leaking CLASSIFIED INFORMATION and implying that he had examined documents and found them to be forgeries......implying that the VP's office had sent him.......and claiming that the administration had lied. Joseph Wilson was the one lying. And those lies needed to be set straight.

You can't easily copy and paste from this full text of the Senate Intelligence Committee Report July 9, 2004 Report. But if you're really interested in the lies that Joseph Wilson was caught in........read starting on page 44-45 of the report. And then check out the Committee Conclusions on the Ambassador and his trip in the Conclusions section toward the end.

To recap for the lemmings, Joseph Wilson didn't lie, Valerie Plame was undercover, Cheney told Scooter to out her as revenge for being outed himself as a WMD liar by her husband, and Cheney has NO authority whatsoever to declassify stuff himself....
He should concentrate on shooting 6ft tall quail whilst plowed, and leave the royal declarations of absolute power to King George....

What do I link to back it up? Oh I don't know, Ambassador Wilson's own words? (Look them up) The fact that Scooter is now saying that Cheney authorized the leak..(fairly recent news, you must have seen the stories, assuming you could tear yourself away from the kool-aid or the daily RNC faxed list of spinning points you spout on a monotonous daily basis...)

Wilson's own words were lies. Read the Senate Intelligence Report and it's conclusions. And Cheney had every right to declassify the information later to set the record straight. It's not a "leak" if it's not classified information. Joseph Wilson and his CIA wife were the ones who leaked information and lied about it. They both should be in jail. And I assume you can PROVE that Valerie Plame was undercover? Because Patrick Fitzgerald has said he didn't even look into that.
