"I don't understand why it's OK for a British company to operate our ports but not a company from the Middle East when we've already determined security is not an issue,"

House Speaker Dennis Hastert, an Illinois Republican, and Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, a California Democrat, also joined that call as lawmakers from both parties expressed concern over the deal.
Even CHUCKY CHEEZE Schumer IS MAKING SENSE FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE his was in third grade
Quote:
"No one can understand it, Democrat or Republican," said Sen. Charles Schumer, a New York Democrat and a leading critic of the agreement. "Average citizens, everywhere we go, are stopping us and saying, 'What is going on?' "

Huh and what is the company buying?
do you know?

If what you know is based on that article well then forget it. That article is so filled with half truths and sensational wording its garbage.

If I believed CNN's reporting they where buying the entire ports and where going to be responsible for all security etc..thats total rubbish.

"Expessed concern"

"can't understand it"

"wonder what's going on"

This is what passes for political debate in Congress these days?

What I know is that this was not put out to the congress or the American people before they pushed through the deal. That makes me suspicious and should make everyone leary.

Bush's defense was that there are no security issues. If that is correct, then I agree; what is the big deal?

Or is the mere fact that they are Arabs reason enough?

And so Bush will *finally* use his veto power to.... push through a deal to let the UAE take ownership of American ports.

Anyone else find this funny in a tragicomic way?

Anyway.... I'll believe it when I see it. Bush has probably misplaced his veto button somewhere in the West Wing.

Not that that's relevant to my question, but okay:

Anyone think it's funny/sad that Bush will *finally* use his veto threat to push through a deal allowing a UAE-based company to run six American ports?

He's threatened to Veto before.

No I find it responsible of him to threaten to Veto a baseless accusation based on outright nonsense.
Instead of allowing political opportunists to lie about what is occuring and damage our relations with the UAE for no reason by blocking the deal.
