Default Bush the "War on Drugs" Hypocrite

I know .. this is old news. I just wan't in the chat circle when Bush was first being elected so didn't get to see all posts regarding this subject. Maybe this irks you as much as it does me.

For years now the government has been ruining the lives of tens of thousands of Americans over the "War on Drugs". I think this is the most hypocritical war ever. Here is the US government taxing alcohol and nicotine but sending people to the slammer and ruining their lives over other drugs that are often benign in comparison to what they are pedelling. This point is really crazy during this administration when one considers that Bush is known to have partied with the yay in his day. It's OK if you are President, but otherwise it'll get you the envionable title of "fellon" ?!? I believe that this is the quintesential definition of "hypocracy".

Why single out Bush? How is Bush's hypocrisy regarding the drug war any different from most Republicrats? I understand your issue with the drug war and I agree it's stupid, but I don't see where Bush needs to be singled out.

While I agree that the war on drugs is stupid and a waste on money, its not fair to single out Bush. Its been done de facto in every administration for decades.

Default Heck.....

Bill Clinton made deals with producers to put anti-drug messages in the primetime sitcom storyline. WITHOUT INFORMING THE PUBLIC. Since I agree with that message, though, it didn't really bother me.

Bush didn't start the "war on drugs". It had long been policy by the time of his election, making his power to get rid of it lower even if it were high on his priority list. Not to mention that somehow a majority of the public is fooled into thinking it's somehow a useful "war". If you're going to blame someone, find the president that started it (I think it was Reagan, but could be wrong).

You might be right. Never really looked into it. And I don't feel like it now.

Reagan's "Just Say No" campaign was hilarious. Talk about old people being out of touch.

Why is that "old people being out of touch?" What's wrong wirh raising your children with the philosophy of "just saying no?" Ever heard of the "self-fullfilling prophecy?" It has to do with expectations. While kids may not do the right thing no matter how hard you try.....if you don't expect anything from them, they will not disappoint.

Too many parents today have this attitude: "Well, we drank some when we were teenagers, we smoked a little pot, we didnt' wait until we were married to have sex.....so who are we to not expect that of our kids?"
That's the totally wrong way to raise kids.

You need proof it was out of touch? It didn't work.
