Default Breaking news: Congress raises national debt limit

From CNN.com:

"U.S. Senate approves bill permitting government to borrow another $781 billion, bringing national debt limit to nearly $9 trillion."

If only Congress was controlled by Republicans, the party that advocates fiscal conservatism.

Oh. Wait.

They are fighting a war on terror all the while giving tax cuts to the rich. It's a tough balancing act. I wonder who will pick up the tab?

Default ?

It is just sad seeing the government waste money like this. I want to know (roughly) where the breaking point is, i.e. when will the annual interest payments on the debt force the federal government to cut spending or go bankrupt?

They ARE rather preoccupied with that silly war. I had the hardest time getting across to my Congressman the need to cut down the paperwork on the new tax codes. I have had to open six new LLC's just to shelter all my income from stock sales this past year. I told him to simply tax the poor. There's much more of them than there are of us anyway. They've gotten away with not paying any taxes for years. It's time they pulled their weight too.

My congressman wouldn't listen, that is until I pulled out my checkbook. THAT got his attention.

Default Actually..

its not unusual for Congree to do this. I may be wrong but I do believe during Bubba's presidency, the ceiling was raised a couple of times.

What is alarming is the rate at which its been raised given the current situation with the war and Katrina reconstruction (of which fund are "MISSING".. )

Along way indeed.

Do you realize how many smart bombs you can buy with 6 billion?
