Why should they have to say Islamism is wrong? That's part of our problem. We need them to say terrorism is wrong. And political violence is wrong.
What we really need is an Islamist or heavy sympathizer that denounces violence as much or more than the West. Someone who gives voice to both resistance to the West (and thus a speedier takeover of nationalist forces, as well as a populist feel) and peaceful methods, as well as standing up peacefully against the wishes of terrorists and insurgents. Someone who can make dying for peaceful self-governance as virtuous as dying in war.

I'm shcked that we have not seen such a person yet.

Default Purple finger = Hershey bar

I wonder how many Hershey bars are passed out at the voting polls? Does anyone have these statistics?

Default Islam or Islamism

Java, I draw a distinction between Islam and Islamism. Islamism, even where it doesn't dovetail with terrorism, is opposed to freedom and seeks to impose its strictures upon those who don't believe.

Are you suggesting people risked being attacked by terrorists for a Hershey bar? heh heh

Naturally...no evidence at all. You simply assume we will take your "facts" at face value.

Looking back, I believe we had the world in our palm after 911. It was a senseless tragedy that put us into a position to rally for world peace. Don't you think we could have "used" 911 to begin a campaign for world peace? Especially us being the super power of the world. Instead, to get back at a handful of terrorists, we destroyed an entire countryside, dropped their innocent citizens like flies, not to mention the sacrifice of our own. I can't help but think, if it had been anyone but Bush, just anyone. Misfortune has rained down on our great nation; as if 911 wasn't bad enough. We could have the taken the bad and made it into something good and positive. But the lies began, and what a tangled web we have now.

...freed millions of people from oppression, and ended a threat to us from two hostile governments....permanently.

The alternatives were worse. The touchy-feely world you want to live in doesnt exist.

I have to agree. I would much rather have had someone like Cheney or Rumsfeld. But Bush did a decent job.

Anyone else would have done something similar. Al Gore was actually very gung ho about Iraq before he lost the election and probably would have seized the opportunity as quickly as the Bush administration. Maybe some other politicians would not have. There are scarier possibilities.

As long as people like you spread your negativity there won't be a "touchy-feely world. And wow, what a terribel thing to wish for I guess. I want it.

Please pay more attention. Cheney and Rumsfeld ( and others) are the "true" presidents. Bush is just the anchorman.

Yeah, just like the Iraqi peasants who join up, someone yells "fire" and he does. He never had an original thought in his entire life. But he sure gave that Goat book hell didn't he? He couldn't leave that book without finishing it, EVEN THOUGH HIS COUNTRY WAS UNDER ATTACK. It was too suspenseful.

Default peace?

I don't understand how one "campaigns for peace" in the face of those who wage war?

You defeat those who wage war and then you have peace.
