On Page 28, the report discusses how 56% of Rush's listeners are from the Hard News Crowd (which as defined by the study are "as hard news – coverage of international affairs, politics and events in Washington, local government, and business and finance."). I also found it interesting that on page 15 it discusses the idealogical break down of the crowds that watch certain shows. It also states that the General Populous is 36% Conservative, 38% Moderate, and a pathetic 18% Liberal. Furthermore Rush's program that draws the largest Hard News Crowd is 77 percent conservative (no surprise).

i dont believe that fox beats cnn in ratings and if they do its only because those real country people in rural towns watch it, cnn is too business/flashy for them, fox is like the good ol country news, theyre commentators have that country accent that attracts the old from all parts of the u.s. that is another reason. cnn is for the more educated young and hip crowd. ive learned from personal experience.

Also keep in mind that most people don't watch ANY news program. FOX has a very obvious agenda and caters to a certain demographic. So on a day-to-day basis it tends to attract right-wing news junkie types and gets higher ratings. Which is fine. Bully for them. When something really newsworthy happens, Joe American starts tuning in to the news (temporarily) and generally goes to CNN, which is viewed by Joe American as more independent and credible. Then he stops watching again and FOX retakes its lead in the ratings.

Most Americans believe themselves to be moderate. Self-described liberals have always been the minority. What is strange is the increase in the number of self-described conservatives. Liberal has been a bad word for most people for a long time. But when did the phrase "conservative" become almost as cool as moderate. The marketing has gone mad.
It's not only conservatives that describe themselves as conservative. There is an interesting terminology difference in Crats and Pubs. The country is full of conservative Democrats. But I've never met a self-described liberal Republican. They're always referred to as moderate Republicans. Self-descriptions are weird. There are more cons than libs and more Crats than Pubs. But Crats only vote for Crats a little over half the time. But to 12th: Most of the liberals who would call themselves moderates are probably right. Most people left of Rush Limbaugh are not as left as I am. They just want their Social Security. My guess is that the number of self-described conservatives is the most exaggerated number. I know a lot of people (ie my dad) who claim to be staunch conservatives but are actually just moderate middle class part-time Pubs with a libertarian streak. Of course another bizarre question is how moderate one needs to be to be moderate.

John Stewart didnt go on FOX and shake his finger at them about bias. And considering his demographic, it would definitely have been more in his interest to do so. Quote:
And I would like to see evidence that CNN's ratings ratio increases during critical events. Anyone got any links? |

I'm more liberal than most and I know (*)(*)(*)(*) well I'm biased. I know everyone's biased in some way- it's part of having a brain capable of only finite knowledge. But what is this line about everyone else seeing the truth and going to Fox? Didn't you just say that those people see that they are biased? If that is the case then how is Fox the truth? Or are you saying that they embrace their bias and thus watch Fox? But with that you would be suggesting that all conservatives who watch Fox understand it and themselves to be biased. That's not true. And I am a liberal who listens to NPR and understands its bias- though I also realize that the bias of both NPR and Fox is overdramatized by pundits. So I am the liberal equivalent of your Fox viewer. So true there are conservative equivalents of the "moderate" NPR- NY Times type, in fact outnumbering them.
