Default Dear W,

I held my nose in 2004 and voted for you for two reasons: First, because the Democratic party did not put forward a serious candidate who stood for something and whose record indicated that he would be trustworthy if put in control of foreign policy. Second, because YOU PROMISED TO SECURE OUR BORDERS AND PUT HOMELAND SECURITY FIRST.

Remember how your dad lost the office of the Presidency to the Democrats for 8 years by lying about taxes?

Even your conservative base is no longer fooled. You are putting corporate interests ahead of the protection of the American people. You've been doing it for years, but this is the issue that will finally cook your lying goose. Not only are you an idiot, but you're fixing to create a backlash that will last for years. I want American businesses to profit, but not at the cost of allowing in an additional hundred million unskilled, uneducated workers to take American jobs.

Well done, Presidunce. You've finally succeeded in making me regret my vote. Guess what? I'm not alone. Your party is also figuring out that you're an even bigger liar than your dad. Welcome to two years of lame duckness. Yeah.

finally tired of being pissed on by you and your corporate pals,

Catz

a few great quotes on the issue from last night...Glad that some members of the House of Reps have finally grown some balls:

"While I appreciate the president's willingness to tackle big problems, I have real concerns about moving forward with a guest worker program or a plan to address those currently in the United States illegally until we have adequately addressed our serious border security problems." — House Majority Whip Roy Blunt, R-Mo.

"If the president thinks by taking one step forward with enforcement the House will follow with two steps backwards with amnesty, he's confusing us with the Senate." — Rep. Tom Tancredo, R-Colo.

"Until the federal government can convince the American people that it is serious about securing our borders, it will be hard to consider other factors of immigration reform." — Sen. Jon Kyl (news, bio, voting record), R-Ariz.

"Unarmed National Guard troops driving bulldozers, who can't make arrests, would essentially be useless." — Rep. John, Culberson, R-Texas.

"So if you have 6,000 in Iraq and send another 6,000 to the border, what do we have left?" — California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, a Republican.

I saw a bumper that said: "America: The best democracy corporate lobbyists can buy".

As long as businesses are able to hire illegals without any serious threat of punishment, we will continue to pay lip service to the problem. And no matter what W says, as long as he runs things nothing more than token enforcement will take place. They own him.

Default Good post Catz

I feel exactly the same, these politicians are unbelievable. They treat and refer to our immigration and border issue as if it were a natural disaster. It is a disaster, but only caused by them, all of them, and no one else. I too am sick to death of these liars.

Default Am I the only one?

Am I the only one here who doesn't care about illegal immigration. I really don't give a (*)(*)(*)(*) if some hard working individual risks life and limb to earn $5 per hour. If you like expensive labor check out France and Germany, and see how its working out for them. Sure some high school drop out can't get a job bussing tables for $10 because the illegals drive down wages, but I don't really care. Everyone tells young people to work hard in school, they choose not to listen, they pay consequences. Consequences which are easily overcome if they get serious about life and do something to fix their situation.

And for those NeoCons who scream about our borders and terrorists. What about the Canada border? Its larger, with more rural areas to cross through. If your screaming about securing our borders, but only the Mexican border, your either a hypocrit or a coward, using terrorizm to disguise your racism.

My feelings regarding the problem are mixed and complex. I both care and don't care depending on the issue. There is more than one issue involving illegals.

But you are way off on the Canadian issue. There is not a major influx of people across that border, so it's not a problem. Although some have indeed used terrorism as a reason for better border enforcement, the major issues most people have don't involve terror at all. And it's not racism either. They would have the same issues if we had to deal with millions of Canadians.

...but you are the only one that is absolutely ignorant on this issue. How much drug smuggling do you think comes from Canada? California alone spends 10 billion a year on social services on illegals, and 1/3 of the prisons are illegals. Since when is protecting the borders of your country considered racism, other than the ignorant few that claim it? Name another country that has an open border policy? This isn't a race issue, or a partisan issue, it is an American issue, and you are out numbered on this one cool breeze.

If the motivation is not terrorism related, why are we wasting all this time, energy, and resources on illegal immigration when the war on terror is FAR more imporant and has larger potential for catostrophe.

If the motivation is terrorism, why doesn't anyone care about the larger Canadian border.

The way I see it, and show me where I'm wrong, is that whatever the motivation, the emphesis on the Mexican border, does not make us safer, and is a drain on our limited resources.

Default "A fool and his money are soon elected." - Will Rogers

The President created a straw man issue to knock down when he proffered:
Quote:
“It is neither wise, nor realistic to round up millions of people, many with deep roots in the United States, and send them across the border.”
Deprive them of wage income by enforcing the existing laws which prohibit the hiring of illegal immigrants. Deprive them of all social services (excepting life saving medical attention). Deprive their children of the ability to attend school where the parent/guardian is undocumented. Do these things and they will either migrate elsewhere or return home ... soon, and on their own dime.

Again, the President asserted as impossible that which is very feasible, and in some instances already underway: the verification of the documents of immigrants, when he says
Quote:
“Many use forged documents to get jobs, and that makes it difficult for employers to verify that the workers they hire are legal.”
Go to this site and you will see the government already has an established protocol for verification of the immigrant’s legal eligibility:

http://www.uscis.gov/graphics/formsf...iles/g-845.pdf

Dubya is obviously pandering to the financial interests of business. Corporate America would have to pay American citizens (and legal immigrants) higher wages to perform the work now being accomplished at reduced wage rates by the undocumented, illegal aliens. He continues to make sure the USA has the best government money can buy.

I don't have numbers, so I may be way off here, but I'm guessing very few of those people are from Canada. But like I said, I may be wrong.

Um, illegals are a drain on our resources, too.
