Why is it morally wrong and stupid for us to build it, but rational and intelligent for them to build it? Gosh, we wouldn't want anyone to think we were fencing anyone out, or in, would we? That would be terrible.

I personally believe America is the best country in the world. So why should we care what other countries do. The only thing that matters is what we do. They are corrupt, immoral hypocrits, and we are moral bastions of equality tolerance and ingenuity.
So do you think that we should look to Mexico for moral guidence? Or you hate America because of our principles? |

It's politics with Mexico. Stopping the labor supply from getting larger is popular. Keeping the labor supply from dropping and revenue from coming back to the country are very unpopular. It shouldn't be surprising. Politicians do what keeps their party and their careers going... typically short-sighted stuff.
Special interests are also in play. Druglords have a lot of power over politics in Mexico. They certainly don't want any impediments to their trade. Corporations in Mexico want cheap labor. So keeping the supply high is a priority. So it seems like more a mystery why the government, heavily susceptible to corporate influence and very interested in gaining investment, dependent on them for jobs... jobs that keep the people content. But who are the people who cross the border (other than drug gangs)? They risk life and limb to get money that will support their families. They break rules to do what they feel they must. The mentality of criminals and entrepreneurs. Both inspirational and decidedly wrong. Also I think these would be the guys to start the unions. If they didn't have the option of leaving, they'd take risks that would really p!$$ off the corporates... and increase the standard of living in Mexico... and lose Mexico some jobs... and increase the size of the middle class, which should create a better, more accessible education system to create a generation of problem solvers, entrepreneurs, and competent public servants. The things that would help in some ways, hurt in others. But for the corporations there now, it's mostly bad. We seem to only see the corporate interest on this side of the border. I get the feeling it's on both sides.
