Hi people, I'm not exactly sure where to put this thread, but I think it qualifies as "current events".
I'm interested in "disclosure" resources for politics (all parties or neither, doesn't matter). Please post your favorite internet resources for that purpose (but not "blogs", just sites that gather and structure "official" information and put it into a form that's suitable for public scrutiny). Here's a few of the ones I like: http://www.publicintegrity.org http://www.sunlightfoundation.com http://www.politicalmoneyline.com http://www.congresspedia.org |

It's a clearinghouse of all major media news outlets. Click HERE and you will be taken to a page with links to 193 different countries and each of their major papers, broadcast media, magazines, news agencies, etc...
You can select the country by region or alphabetically. It's interesting to look up stories via Reuters, AP, BBC, etc... or to read their take on things in their daily paper. Pick a major story and then compare each different way they covered it. You begin to recognize bias easier as you percieve it in each story. Try it, I think it's cool! It's called News Zone, and it's actually a Russian site that collects all the links. To non: I've done a thread like this a couple years ago. After a couple days, I'll move this one to "Technology and Internet." It's a cool idea to see how other people gather their news and/or share their resources. It's good to revise or revisit this type of subject as the users that come by the forum tend to change. Thanks for starting this thread.

Of all the talk radio hosts you hear about, my favorite one is Glenn Beck. He's a conservative, but he doesn't always like to talk politics. I like the fact that he uses humor to change up the feel of things and many times just steers clear of politics by saying, "Hey, if you want to hear that crap for the hundredth time, listen to Sean or Rush. Personally, I'd rather stick a red hot spoon in my eye."
So he talks about pop culture, years gone by, trends, and yes, even politics a little. He's apt to rip into Bush as anyone, and his even handed approach to things has made him the number 3 talk show guy in America. Also, he's recently been added to CNN as a news/entertainment show. (I should get cable so I can see it, but I hear it's pretty funny stuff.) His website has all this stuff that he talks about. On page 2 of it, is a compilation of topics drawn from various sources that are linked to other sites on the internet. Basically, they're current news events you'd find in the papers or on television. They've been compiled and sorted so he can use them in his shows if he feels like it. They cover things like the environment, war news, home front, war on terror, business, economy, technology, etc... Here's the link to that page: http://www.glennbeck.com/page2/index.shtml

FAS (Federation of American Scientists) - Probably the best source of weapons technology data on the internet. The seem to be pretty accurate, although their agenda is a little to the left.
Pollingreport.Com - This site is not a poll site. Rather, it consolidates polls from a variety of sources (both liberal and conservative) into one place. This is a good place to go to find trends as well, since they have poll data going back years. CIA World Factbook - A detailed database of every nation on the planet. Includes Geographic, Population, and political data. Nationmaster.Com - Extensive trade and population database for dozens of nations. Factcheck.Org - I use this site a lot too. They seem unbiased, and are very thorough. They include links to their sources as well. Saddam's UN Violations - I know liberals wont care, but in case any conservatives want a list of the exact violations he committed, here it is. Amnesty International's 1988 report on Iraq - In case anyone still has lingering doubts. Sun Tzu's Art of War - An online version of the book, hosted by FAS. Taiwan Relations Act - Online version of the TRA. Aluminum Beanie - For all the conspiracy theorists on the forum...make sure you buy your's today. |
