With the media the way it is, you can't expect them to responsibly point out these flaws. They will sensationalize some things and gloss over others, often ignoring finer details. It will resemble the media being partisan, but will actually be primarily a function of trying to fit such things into five minute segments.
Do you honestly believe they'd get a variety of people from different angles to argue their side on the issue? That's why public broadcasting doesn't resemble the norm. There is only a tiny market for such non-ADD friendly programming.
People are more entertained by pundits who give catchy-sounding one-sided attacks, not by comprehensive debates complete with the other side.
Face it. Before we can fix the media, the government, or the private sector, the public needs work. Until then we can expect same-old same-old.
