This is the central issue, right?

The assertion that the nation's security was somehow threatened by this revelation?

I have yet to see any proof of that assertion.

After all, we're talking about banking records that are examined "after the fact" (sometimes months after the fact).

This isn't like wiretapping a phone call to nab a guy that's about to bomb the Sears Tower.

This banking thing is to "bring people to justice", like that guy from Bali.

My contentions are a) that the terrorists already new about this, b) that the NY Times was well within its rights to publish the information, and c) that this is just an obvious political ploy to rally the conservatives (TM) in advance of an important election.
The NY Times gave detailed info about how the US is tracking their money, and it is the main issue, try and find one positive article written about the Bush administration.

An answer like that comes from a voice of experience. Imagine being an expert at buffing turds.

Default Leaking classified information

Leaking classified information, deemed critical in the conduct of a war against an enemy who has already attacked us, killing 3,000 innocent American lives, is treasonous. Treason is a crime, one that cannot go unpunished. Punish the leakers, and punish the NY al-Times for the aid and comfort they have given the enemy.

1. The USA has no official secrets act.
2. The finding of the SCOTUS regarding the Pentagon Papers flap (NEW YORK TIMES CO. v. UNITED STATES, 403 US 713 (1971) is controlling.
3. These "secrets" spilled by the NYT have been widely known to anyone who's been paying the least attention. Al Qaeda noticed the arrest patterns of their members years ago and how they correlated to banking transactions. It was about the same their cel phone usage was getting them popped.
4. Tony "SnowJob" Snow was asked, today, if the Gray Lady would lose her press credentials for the daily briefings and he made clear that she would not.
5. Please continue dithering.

1. Wrong. It has numerous laws in regards to the transmiting of classifed data or whatnot.

2. Nonsense. The Pentagion Papers where very geenral in nature and did not deal with a specific program such as this. For the most part that ruling and case is irrelevant to this one.

3. The acts of seizing finances has been known..that peopel monitored such things was known....Not the who where what and hows.
There is a HUGE difference between the two and the we already knew eveyrthing is a BS routine thats not goign to fly.

4. As far as he knew at that time. For all he knows tomorrow he will be saying they have been barred. The cheesey 3 year old name calling really though should make anyone question whether or not you even listened to him at all.

5. He gave an opinion as to why he found their actions treasonous..you on the otherhand gave us a load of crap.

The constant usage of this issue to rehash the usual Bush bashes is the perogative of fools.

Ever hear of the Sedition Act of 1798? Hmm.....

Let's see, DOJ has backed completely away from this thing. Gonzales and Bushie both stopped short of calling for an investigation. Tony Snow won't even revoke the NYT's press corps credentials.

I still smell a setup somewhere in this one. Once again, I think Bushie knows where the leak is, and he's not going to tell us.

Seems to me, we should put the President under oath, and then pump him full of pentothal.

As you have stated, this isn't about our national security to you, it is about getting Bush. Not acknowledging the NY Times did anything wrong, it is only about getting Bush. That is what makes the left leaning loons so pathetic.

You previously stated it is no big deal, everyone new that we were tracing their money activity, then according to you the NY Times ran a non-story on their front page, along with 2 other news papers. What kind of ignorant reasoning is that?

This is the same thing as in WWII, when the US was decoding the Japanese messages, and crushing the Japanese. Did any news service run that story? No, would they have been held accountable if they did, yes. It would be so refreshing if the TRIP-LLL's (left leaning loons) would start thinking of their country instead of second guessing everything our government is trying to do to protect us, and curb terrorism.
