Do you agree or disagree with U.N's proposal? I would be happy to hear any thoughts. (Plus the ten day poll)

Default .

No I do not agree wit the UN's proposal becasue I do not believ the UN will actually uphold/act on it. They already have a resolution in regards to Hezbollah 1559 and proabyl many more besides. Its another case of Saddam..16 resoltuons later you'll still be in the same spot. Both hands tied behind your back by a UN intentionally looking the other way.

I think Bush is supporting this under he idea that in the event it is accepted (which its clearly not going to be..since Hezbollah would for all intents have to agree to destroy itself) the French led force will go into Southern Lebanon with the ability to disarm with force if need be all remnants of Hezbollah.

I don't think many of the other players have any intention of doing that. I think they just want to stop what is going on for the sake of stopping it and then go right back to the way it was just before all this.

I also think Bush doesn't expect it to occur..but this move and the reality of how Hezbollah wil react will give him and others who wish to remove Hezbollah the political excuse they need to do so.

Basically..
"Look we wanted to end this but Hezbollah clearly does not. Therefore we are going to enforce resolution 1559 by supporting the Lebanese military(whether they like it or not) directly in disarming either peacefully or through force Hezbollah."

....with the realization that such an act will force the hands of Iran and Syria thus giving the Allies the last excuse they need to deal with those two regimes.

I think eveyrone in their right mind realizes that before any diplomatic soluton of any worth can be applied their wil have had to be a regional war with one side or the other triumphant. Right now we're basicaly playing the 1930's..where Axis powers are making small moves here and there and those who don't wish to face reality are telling everyone negotiate. Negotiations will get you the same thing it got those of the 30's a false sense of security that will not last.

It always amazes me how thepeopel of the 30's where so blind to the Nazis..when the Nazi made absolutely no secret of wat they intended. We are in the same situation today only its ot the Nazis its Radical Islamic Nutball Regimes who are making it bluntly clear their intentions and we're all appluading a piece of paper being held up in the wind.

Default I would agree...

I disagree with you. An interesting argument would be the question of the 15,000 troops, but many people seem to believe America should not bother. I would think that this is a good attempt to resolve this conflict, and that its a good idea.
