Default DeLay says he'll withdraw

Quashing speculation about his status, Tom DeLay said he will withdraw from the House race in his district to make room for a write-in candidate.
http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/wireStory?id=2287957

Quote:
"I will take the actions necessary to remove my name from the Texas ballot. To do anything else would be hypocrisy," DeLay said in a statement. "I strongly encourage the Republican Party to take any and all actions necessary to give Texas voters an up-or-down choice this fall between two major party candidates."
If any write-in candidacy has a chance, it's this one. But I wouldn't hold my breath; Democrat Nick Lampson was a strong candidate even against DeLay; he'll still be a strong candidate no matter who the Republicans get to run.

It looks like DeLay's district could go Democratic in November.

I don't owe you a thing. Because I said that IF he decides to run; he'll win.

I also said there were 3 choices now.....

1) he'd run
2) he'd withdraw and hand it to the Dems
3) he'd withdraw and the Republicans would mount a massive write-in campaign.

We now know it's #3.

I think you'll see Republicans come out in huge numbers in that District after what the Democrats have pulled.

I especially like this part of Tom Delay's statement. It's SO TRUE:

"The court ruling allows a Democrat – who just moved into this community – to have his name appear on the ballot, but denies the Republican Party the opportunity to place a District Republican resident on that same ballot.

Voters should be concerned. While judges are denying Texas voters a fair choice this Fall, the courts allowed the Democrat Party in New Jersey to withdraw Robert Torricelli and substitute Frank Lautenberg in a similar case just weeks before the 2002 U.S. Senate election."

That's ALL that need to be said in a TV ad in Tom Delay's district!!!! Along with the name of whoever they decide to run. The Republicans in the district will come out in huge numbers!! It's a question of fairness.

Default DeLay Vows to Pull Name From Ballot

Quote:
DeLay moves to remove name as candidate from Texas ballot
By DAVID ESPO
AP Special Correspondent

WASHINGTON — Dogged by scandal, former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay said Tuesday he will do whatever is necessary to remove his name from the ballot, a step that will allow the party to field a write-in candidate in hopes of holding his seat in Texas.

The development came one day after Texas Republicans lost a court battle in their bid to name a replacement candidate for DeLay on the November ballot.

"I will take the actions necessary to remove my name from the Texas ballot. (...)"

Any ideas what the Rat Catcher will do to have his name removed from the ballot? We know now that it will be illegal for the Repugnacans to run someone else under their flag.

Default I'm pleased

"...the courts allowed the Democrat Party in New Jersey to withdraw Robert Torricelli and substitute Frank Lautenberg in a similar case just weeks before the 2002 U.S. Senate election."

I'm pleased the Republicans were quick enough to catch the same observation I made after Judge Sanders first ruled DeLay must remain on the ballot.

What the Rat Catcher fails to appreciate, but the courts at all levels did, is that the election laws of Texas do not yet apply to residents of the Garden State.

Typical weasel-ish Neo-Con excuse. (j/k)

Come on JP, you don't owe "me". Why don't you just send the Jackson here to PF, that way we all win (you too). It's a win-win for all of us that way.

You cannot use the nuance of the law on most NEOCONartists...
