Default New Iraqi Government

http://abcnews.go.com/wire/World/ap20040601_2295.html

I wish them luck. Looks like the guy choosen may have a bit more credibility with the Iraqi's than the Governing Council. So hopefully this can be start to fixing the quagmire called Iraq.

Still think that Iraq has been poorly managed and this administration is wrong about almost everything. But if we are going to kill the tens of thousands of people and pay the hundreds of billions of dollars, then hopefully something can come of it.

Default Tough Job

Good luck to him, not sure that the appointment of one person no matter how credible will make a lot of difference but who knows.

Cheers,

Default About time

This is a good step, as the US needs to start letting go. Meanwhile, this will allow the rebuilding process of Iraqi national pride, which is what they'll need to combat the insurgency.

Default Don't think so...

Just by electing an interim government isn't going to stop the terrorist insurgents. They have their own agenda (the interim government) anyway and probably won't be able control iraqi elections and run the nation without an armed UN multi-national force prepared to be shot up cleaning up what America started. (Not implying I don't think the war in iraq shouldn't have gone ahead)

Default Ahh...

And the puppet show begins.

The first thing I think we'll be seeing is the government trying to proove it is not an American puppet state. They need to gain the trust of the people, or we will be having a new Afghanistan, or maybe even Vietnam.

The only way they will be able to do that is by issuing an order on July 1 telling all american Troops to leave Iraq. What are the odds of that happening? It would make things interesting though.

I'm not sure how they are going to do it, but they have to do it somehow. Otherwise they will have no popular support, and would only be supported with American guns (like Afghanistan), or even worse they will be a highly unpopular government only propped up with American guns (like Vietnam). They have to somehow be popular, and not need the American guns to keep them popular.

Whatever happens, the US is staying in Iraq for quite some time. A couple of years I'd reckon at the quickest.

Default experience

The Iraqi resistance to the presence of foreign intrusion has so much experience from bouts with the Russians than undoubtly the task will be monumental and I can't believe it will go down favorably for the US.

On July 1, if the new Iraqi Gov't orders all Coaltion forces out of Iraq, Do you think we will do as were told and leave? Why or why not?
