Martin Luther King was the father of Martin Luther King Jr.
Do you wish to convey to the readers that the civil rights leader murdered by James Earl Ray, Martin Luther King Jr., was a registered Repugnacan or his father was?
Can you answer my question?

Default I'll answer

yes, Sr was a registered Republican who had endorsed Nixon at one point.

MLK Jr (the one assassinated by Ray) was a registered Republican according to http://www.nationalblackrepublicans....er%20King%20Jr

It's odd.
The website gives a date for his father's registration in the GOP but only puts up MLK Jr.'s portrait in a gallery of fellow party members. I wonder why there is a dearth of data? You'd think if they could find registration details on daddy, that of the son would be easier.
The cite also offered no proofs. Just the claim and a photo.
I remain skeptical.

Default I don't know either way

but Sr definitely was a Republican until 1960 (he endorsed Nixon and changed to JFK when RFK helped get Jr out of jail after a protest). I read that somewhere in his own words. So it makes sense, like father like son. But he also refused generally to endorse candidates in his life.

Default Southern Whites went Repub, Southern Black Democratic

It is no great mystery that as a vestage of reconsruction Southern Blacks tended to be Republican and that lasted until the sixties or seventies. When the at of the civil rights plank of the Democratic party and the support of the civil rights legislation by the Democrats. Another factor was that the peiople who went South and pushed for Black voter registration were mostly Democrats or leaning that way.

Another reason why the Southern white moved away from the Democrats.
