Default The Demo Platform

Oh, you won't hear any demos openly espousing their real views, but on taxes, we know what they actually are:

"Failure to sustain the tax cuts would have real impact on people's lives. As the Heritage Foundation reported, the Rangel position would have the following results:

Tax rates will rise substantially in each tax bracket, some by 450 basis points;

Low-income taxpayers will see the 10-percent tax bracket disappear, and they will have to pay taxes at the 15-percent rate;

Married taxpayers will see the marriage penalty return;

Taxpayers with children will lose 50 percent of their child tax credits;

Taxes on dividends will increase beginning on Jan. 1, 2009;

Taxes on capital gains will increase, also beginning on Jan. 1, 2009; and

Federal death taxes will come back to life in 2011, after fading down to nothing in 2010."

Yup, demos never met a tax increase they didn't support.

Default new flavor of kool aid

neocon flavor of the month is "democrat tax"

from watching the recent talking head programs this seems to be the rove orchestration prior to elections. all of a sudden the republicans know what rangel and the other democrats will do once elected. that pitiful excuse of an organization has no clue what it will do ... so how can the republicans pretend to know?

and fife, have a suck, but don't swallow

They kinda have to. When you promote welfare from cradle to grave, how else are you going to pay for all the social programs?

Slightly off topic, but do tell me what the expected course regarding government revenue is too be? Considering the current substantial period of increased spending and decreased revenue, what future options will we have? It would seem that you don't like one of the responsible options...so what would your suggestion be?

Default Tax revenues

the republicans know what rangel and the other democrats will do once elected.

No, we're simply taking Rangel at his word on this.

Considering the current substantial period of increased spending and decreased revenue,

Tax revenues increased 10% from 2005 to 2006. Where have you been?

Barney did you get those "facts" from Bill Sali's (Idaho) website?

http://www.billsali.com/news.asp?id=77

He's talking about the effects of NOT extending Bush's tax cuts IN IDAHO...

Am I missing something here?

Deficit spending still FAR outweighs revenue. We need real *sustainable* solutions. And no, criticizing is not a solution.

I would think a sustainable solution would be: raise GDP and stop spending.

At least one of them is getting done.

added: and fixing our screwed up trade deals would help.

and how much has our debt to China increased over the same time period?

China is now the second largest holder of U.S. debt, with more than $260 billion in U.S. Treasury securities.

Since Bush took office, the amount of U.S. debt owned by foreigners has increased 120%, from approximately $1 trillion in January 2001 to approximately $2.2 trillion in February 2006. It took 42 American Presidents and 224 years to build up that amount ($1 trillion) of foreign-held debt.

Try fudging those numbers up. Cheers.

His Rangel "facts" come from an interview in which Rangel was asked if he could think of a single Bush tax cut he liked and he said "no."

Based on that single answer, conservatives are trying to claim Rangel will repeal the earned income tax credit, 529 plans, and the like.

It's ridiculous. Dems have pretty consistently said they're going to roll back some of Bush's tax cuts. But to think they'll commit political suicide -- not to mention go against decades of Dem policy -- by raising taxes on the poor or monkeying with such popular programs as the 529s, is stupid.
