I can't really fathom that anyone would be so stupid as to believe that all Democrats are homogeneous, or all Republicans are homogeneous. Although, many people post that way. Certainly you and I are smart enough to individuate the issues, yes? But we also know that when it comes to real political power in Washington, it's the winning party that sets the agenda, and determines what gets done and what doesn't. Any individual has very little clout in that regard. That's why we have "parties" in the first place. ( I don't mind a little partisan talk, but you're right, it does get moronic when it's overdone. There's a couple of folks around here who seem to especially pathetic in that regard, 'cause that's all they post about (you, know like every post is nothing more than "Dems are the devil"). I think we all know who those people are. But it does tend to throw the new folks off, that would be my observation. Some newbies seem to come here for a while, try to engage in intelligent discussion, and then give up. Maybe they don't stick around long enough to be able to catch enough wheat out of the chaff. I tend to look at politics from two different angles. One is as an "analyst", that is to say, watching races and so on, and who's winning and losing, and for what reasons. From that point of view, Arizona seems to be particularly interesting right now, 'cause the immigration issue is flip-flopping the parties, and totally confusing what we'd ordinarily think of as their respective platforms. The other perspective I try to use, is to separate out ("individuate") the individual issues from their partisan worldviews. For instance, the Reps are playing the "war on terror" card (again), but at the same time they're totally ignoring the immigration card, except in just a few areas where the latter matters more than the former. They've actually pulled funding from one guy down in Arizona, because he disagrees with the "official" Rep platform stand on immigration. And yet, he's winning, using his own personal money. See, this is what's so bizarre about both party's power structures these days. They fund or de-fund candidates on the basis of whether the Party wants them to win, and the results is that the People never get the choice. But anyway, that was a little off topic. I too would like to see some increasingly intelligent debate. |

Seems to me at least to be more along the lines of a post whining about a specific posters comments and a poster/mod who replied in defense of the comment and their exchage with someone not even mentioned. Quote:
But HOW exactly did she not? Her comments includign the QUIT had to do with Superbadbrutha. http://www.politicalforum.com/viewto...=asc&&start=48 What is this thread about again? /////////// Quote:
I think its all over the place..from all sides. I also don't see how you exactly remove the partisanship from a Political Forum....especially one where the majority of the posters are Americans. Whats the saying "Never discuss sports or politics with and American."-something like that. Anyway......... I highly doubt The12thMan will actually quit becasue of that. In fact I'd say if you read the entirety of the exchange that SOMEONE here needs to drop it. Besides Barney was right |

Have a take, and don't suck. A lot of takes suck, and I ignore them. They're neither thoughtful nor entertaining.
One other thing--many takes are designed to bait the other person to respond in a certain way. I do this all the time--just dangle out some flashy bait, and I know someone will take it. They don't see there's a hook in that bait. Don't let yourself get baited (unless it's by me). Lastly, be entertaining and not long-winded. No one is going to read some long post. You only posted it so you could read it yourself and feel good about yourself after reading it. No one is impressed. We're all bored by it. This is why your letters to the newspaper never get published. For me, personal insults are water off a duck's back. No one can offend me. I can only choose to be offended. So, I choose not to be offended. Some of you might try that. Life sure is a lot more enjoyable.
