Thank you for a pleasant reply. I gained a lot of incite into the nature of Christian faith from it. I think we agree on most everything, especially the idea that Christian is one who follows Jesus, not simply one who joins the Christian religion. That's my main point. So many Christians, including perhaps this Texas governor, seem to think otherwise-- that all it takes to be Christian is to join Chritianity, and that all others are doomed regardless of personal deeds. This type of thinking is very dangerous and needs to be stated more clearly by Christian leaders.

Default ...

When religion/race/ethnicity/gender/ideology becomes intertwined with our political campaign system, expect that whatever else these things mean will be reduced to a "club". In political-speak, Christianity is a club.
My opinion is that people who vote strictly because someone is in their club or pays lip service to their club does the country no service.
But that's most of the voting people do.

From looking at the actual quotes of the candidates, I'd say you have it backwards. I got the impression that Strayhorn and Bell "joined the club", and that Perry believes in Jesus.
