Default Bush Skeptical of Dems' Call for Iraq Troop Withdrawal

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President George W. Bush, under pressure by the new Democratic majority in the U.S. Congress to change course in Iraq, reacted skeptically on Monday to their call for a phased troop withdrawal.

http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=stor.../iraq_usa_dc_9

Looks like the President is not the only one:

....."51 percent of Americans are very concerned that Congress will push too hastily for the withdrawal of U.S. troops in Iraq. (Only 20 percent say they are not too concerned or not at all concerned.) And 43 percent are very concerned that the new Congress may keep the administration from doing what is necessary to combat terrorism. Only 29 percent are not too concerned or not at all concerned."

Default .

Anyone sane would look at it skeptically because they don't say under what conditions..they simply say start pullling troops out..which is asinine simplicity.

Next they'll have Murtha trotting around with his "plan" to kill crabs on Okinawa....

Like you have shown the majority of Americans reject the pull out no matter what half assed nonsense... and have for some time.
They voted in the Democrats to stir things up..becasue they felt the war was ot going well or as good as they expect it to be.
They did this NOT TO LOSE but to WIN.

Democrats better get that through their heads...
Luckily most of the Democrats are not the insane Far Left and reject their defeatism as well.
Bi-partisan agreement as Levin wants on a "phased withdrawal"(aka retreat) within 4 to 6 months is DOA. Not only will Republicans reject it but most Democrats as well.

Default Wonder what those who are ACTUALLY fighting the war think

A poll was conducted of US Troops on the Iraq War here is what they think.

http://www.zogby.com/NEWS/ReadNews.dbm?ID=1075

I wonder if their opinions matter any or are they going to be labeled as "Cut and Run" troops also.

Peace.

Wow...from talking with friends that are in, I had it pegged closer to 50-50. I've noticed close to an even amount of people who support it as those who oppose it. So far they're all still alive, but one was shot in the leg

---

* Le Moyne College/Zogby Poll shows just one in five troops want to heed Bush call to stay “as long as they are needed”
* While 58% say mission is clear, 42% say U.S. role is hazy
* Plurality believes Iraqi insurgents are mostly homegrown
* Almost 90% think war is retaliation for Saddam’s role in 9/11, most don’t blame Iraqi public for insurgent attacks
* Majority of troops oppose use of harsh prisoner interrogation
* Plurality of troops pleased with their armor and equipment

An overwhelming majority of 72% of American troops serving in Iraq think the U.S. should exit the country within the next year, and more than one in four say the troops should leave immediately, a new Le Moyne College/Zogby International survey shows.

Well JP5 the troops have spoken, since you claim to be so pro-troops do you agree with them or the ones sitting in their nice warm homes out of harms way.

Peace.

But only 1 in 4 said we should leave immediately. Their opinions more closely match the Republicans than the Dems'.
