So Maliki obliges Bush's "request" and makes his "bold" statement they will take over in 7 months. Then Bush can issue the troop withdrawal at the "request" of Iraq government next year. Not a bad scheme and it might work, as long as Sadr and AQ and the other "bad guys" cooperate.

That thought occurred to me also. However, a more devious thought is that Bush is determined to find a way to pull "victory" out of defeat. He is determined to stay the course with his present plan, and this guy Maliki could be just another delaying tactic to gain another 7 months of essentially doing nothing. If everyone in the US sits on their hands for the next 7 months, then Bush need only come up with one more rabbit to pull out of his hat to allow his to stay the course and, he hopes, form a stable government, ha ha.
