Default The "real" story on Bush/Maliki meeting

Bush knows he will have to withdraw troops soon. He can't ignore Baker commission, public opinion, or reality. But politically it can't look like he's doing it as a result of pressure from Democrats. Bush needs to make the pullout look like it was a result of successful transition to Iraq forces... as the "plan" was all along. So Maliki obliges Bush's "request" and makes his "bold" statement they will take over in 7 months. Then Bush can issue the troop withdrawal at the "request" of Iraq govenment next year. Not a bad scheme and it might work, as long as Sadr and AQ and the other "bad guys" cooperate.

That thought occurred to me also. However, a more devious thought is that Bush is determined to find a way to pull "victory" out of defeat. He is determined to stay the course with his present plan, and this guy Maliki could be just another delaying tactic to gain another 7 months of essentially doing nothing. If everyone in the US sits on their hands for the next 7 months, then Bush need only come up with one more rabbit to pull out of his hat to allow his to stay the course and, he hopes, form a stable government, ha ha.

Default ...

Try that Bush has to continue backing Maliki if he doesn't want Maliki to join with Sadr and the others while our troops are still in harm's way... and Maliki has to make bold statements to continue depending on the support of the US.
It's a pretty predictable dialogue really.
It doesn't really tell us what Bush is planning.

Side note: Did you realize that putting the word real in parentheses makes it sound like your analysis is meant to be a joke? I found that funny.

I thought the same thing initially. But where in Conspiracy Theories? I'd just assume wait till it's too old to be latest news.
