Very true that Duke is still an idiot, but one that has never been accepted by the Republican party EVER. Byrd isn't exactly the brightest bulb in the lamp either. With his track record as a klansman to go on national TV and toss around the "n" word does not show a great deal of sense. Trying to listen to his irrational rambling and ranting from the Senate floor is a bit of a tip off also.

Apologizing is all well and good, but I would still never elect anyone to office that was a former Klansman. When you join the Klan you are forever tainted as far as political office goes...at least as far as I am concerned.

come on now, Duke was elected to the state house as a republican.

Byrd will have to answer for his past one day and I feel that's why he has spent his life trying to make up for it. I don't think anyone can make up for knowing about or taking part in lynchings, however. The KKK has ALWAYS been a terrorist, murderous gang and Byrd was a member of it. He cannot escape it.

The republicans cannot escape Duke either. you cannot say the the national party turned him away when the local party elected him. people have disgraced both parties but it is not truthful to say they were never accepted because they were elected.
