Default Chirac : "Iran is a great nation"

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/mid...st/5357532.stm

Quote:
In a radio interview before departing for the UN General Assembly session in New York, Mr Chirac said: "I am never in favour of sanctions."

He called Iran "a great nation", and suggested that in the course of future talks the six leading nations now engaged with Iran on the nuclear dossier would renounce the threat of UN sanctions and Iran would renounce uranium enrichment.

His comments may reflect a growing belief among European leaders that persuading Iran to drop its troublesome nuclear ambitions can realistically be done only by staying on good terms with Iran, not by hostile pressure or threats.
What???? Is this man for real? I bet all he wants is for French companies to provide Iran with nuclear projects and missiles earnng France billions of Euros - what a scabby low-life Nation France is - they make me sick to the pit of my stomache

He seems to have given up on the idea of preventing Iran from becomng a Nuclear state - he is a very dangerous fellow and wants removing IMO.

It is well know that Iran is funding many terrorist Shiite groups and Iran wishes to dominate the middle East!!

The article mentions European leader opinion is to be all buddy buddy with Iran and maybe they will drop their nuclear program? Balls is what I say to that - and if the UK Government takes that stance (I doubt they do) then I am emmgrating to Australia or some other countrty will guts for the forthcomng fght.

Bomb the nuclear installations now!!!!

see here Iran wishes to continue enrchment despite UN sanctons

Default a-bomb-a-nation

Iran is a great nation...as is Britain, as is the US.

Another thing they have in common; they are all led by religious nuts.

Default More sanctions...OUCH!

Sanctions sure have helped in North Korea to stop their nuclear program - NOT. I don't know why anybody thinks sanctions would stop Iran either. It's just a pissin' contest among little boys. More talk and no action by Bush. There's really nothing we can do anyway...

Default I think

there is really no way of stopping Iran from obtaining nukes. They are drowning in petroldollars .. I mean Euros. They will simply buy nukes off of North Korea. NK will wecome the business. The fear is that Iran will develop tons of these devices. But then the question becomes, would Iran use a nuke as an offensive weapon, and if so, against who ? I know the easy answer is that I'm sitting on ground zero right now. But I'm not certain that this is true. Israel has tons of devices and plenty are on subs. Iran, and the Mulahs' cash cow (oil) will disappear immediately. So question still stands, do you think that they would use a nuke offensively, and if so on whom ?

I can easily see Iran using them on Israel, the last time we came to a nuclear exchange was between Pakistan and India, it had nothing to do with reasoning or tactical fighting. It had to do with religious and historical hatred between the nations, with Israel and Iran its very much the same thing with a extra iota for Iran, in the Muslim Middle East they become heroes for killing so many "Zionist". With that said IMO if the exchange ever did happen, it would like drag Iran into a civil war, although I think the TPTB in that nation are hoping that the population will all behind their leaders, because 1. National Rises in a state of war, and 2. They are rallying on anti-Israel and anti-semitic feelings to be a rallying cry for their power.

so where did THAT come from?

...

eitherway... some things you should know about ahmadinejad.

He just lost influence in an election where he was unpopular on social issues.

If we want to keep ahmadinejad in power, we should keep antagonizing him, and keep spouting obvious hypocracies in his general direction for him to use in his campaign speaches against israel and the U.S.

... to understand the political climate of iran, you need to know a bit of history.

The country on the east has been invaded by the U.S. Same with the country on the west... and the U.S. has for years now threatened to make it Tic-Tac-Toe.

Bush and Blair talk about democracy. In 1953 Iran had a democratic government. The U.S. & Britain overthrew it.

Bush and Blair talk about weapons of mass destruction in the hands of dangerous countries. Israel ( probably ) has nukes, so do the British, The U.S. has more WMDs than anyone on the planet, and certainly these are the most dangerous countries from Iran's perspective. In addition, the U.S. as well as Britain and other western nations, were supplying Iraq with components to weapons of mass destruction during the Iraq-iran-war, in which millions of people were killed. The U.S., interestingly enough, was supplying weapons to both sides during that war.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U.S._su...q_war#_note-13
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iran-iraq_war
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iran-Contra

...

Israel is not going to attack iran, that is crazy talk.

This isn't world war III, ahmadinejad is not crazy, we should not treat him as such. Iran is not going to pre-emptively nuke anyone, and if it does, it knows what the consequences will be. There are plenty more dangerous countries with nuclear weapons than iran, Pakistan being at the top of the list.

My solution to this problem, is the same as my solution to Zimbabwe and Somalia, as posted in other threads: Do nothing. If we stop feeding Iran hypocracies, Ahmadinejad will probably lose steam. Anything else we do will be both ineffective and feed into his nationalist rhetoric.
