Default Bush-Era Interrogations Provided Key Details on Bin Laden's Location

4 years ago, Khalid Sheik Mohammed during interrogations at Gitmo, gave up the information that eventually led to killing of bin Laden. Now, I think we can finally put to rest the questions about the importance of Gitmo and the waterboarding of the top guy. Even Pres. Obama, who was against Gitmo before he got into office, eventually saw the importance of it and thereby did not close it.

Bin Laden raid was culmination of years of work, senior administration officials say

Sunday afternoon’s raid by U.S. forces that killed Osama bin Laden was the “culmination of years of careful and highly advanced intelligence work,” senior administration officials said in a conference call, describing the genesis of an operation that sounded like it was right out of a “Mission Impossible” movie.
Some time after Sept. 11, detainees held by the U.S. told interrogators about a man believed to work as a courier for bin Laden, senior administration officials said. The man was described by detainees as a protégé of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, and “one of the few Al Qaeda couriers trusted by bin laden.”
Initially, intelligence officials only had the man’s nickname, but they discovered his real name four years ago.

Two years ago, intelligence officials began to identify areas of Pakistan where the courier and his brother operated, and the great security precautions the two men took aroused U.S. suspicions.
Last August, intelligence officials tracked the men to their residence in Abbottabad, Pakistan, a relatively wealthy town 35 miles north of Islamabad where many retired military officers live.
“When we saw the compound where the brothers lived, we were shocked by what we saw,” a senior administration official said.

Congratulations to President Obama for keeping this operation going and for being dedicated to getting bin Laden. Congratulations to President Bush for years of doing what was necessary, despite the criticisms he would take for it, in order to get the intelligence we needed to finally get Osama bin Laden. BUT especially, congratulations to the Navy Seals who pulled off this small team effort that worked like something from a Mission Impossible movie.....like clockwork. Thanks also to ALL our U.S. military for their continued dedication to fighting terrorism and bringing those who were responsible for 9/11 to their final justice.

The Pakistani govt is not our friend. Was anyone surprised to find out where Bin Laden had been hiding and so close to Pakistani army and police?

Congratulations to President Obama for keeping this operation going and for being dedicated to getting Obama.
I know you meant Osama there...this is the reason all the news casts are spelling it Usama, so we don't confuse Osama with Obama as Teddy Kennedy did...LOL

Karl Rove said this morning that he doesn't believe the top gov't of Pakistan was complicent in hiding him and there is no indication of such at this point. However, as you indicate, I personally believe there had to be plenty of people who DID know he was there. Word would get around after that many years.

Oops. Of course I did. It's a typo. Thanks for pointing it out. I'll edit.

Your article does nto support any of that nonsense.

    It says nothing of Gitmo.

It does not say the information came form KSM.

It does not say that the information came form waterboarding.

Getting Osama is all Bush's fault...
With their infernal racial set-asides, racial quotas, and race norming, liberals share many of the Klan's premises. The Klan sees the world in terms of race and ethnicity. So do liberals! Indeed, liberals and white supremacists are the only people left in America who are neurotically obsessed with race. Conservatives champion a color-blind society. -- Ann Coulter

    Yes.

However, I am not in the habit of accepting claims of what someone saw on TV as some sort of fact.
