Default Scientists offered cash to dispute climate study

Scientists and economists have been offered $10,000 each by a lobby group funded by one of the world's largest oil companies to undermine a major climate change report due to be published today.

Letters sent by the American Enterprise Institute (AEI), an ExxonMobil-funded thinktank with close links to the Bush administration, offered the payments for articles that emphasise the shortcomings of a report from the UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).

I agree with James Inhofe of Oklahoma:

"Sen. James Inhofe, an Oklahoma Republican and global warming skeptic who headed the environment committee before Democrats gained the congressional majority last year, assailed the report.

"This is a political document, not a scientific report, and it is a shining example of the corruption of science for political gain," Inhofe said in a statement."

Default That's kind of funny.

You'd think if any scientists found any problems with the report, they would report it without the extra cash.

Any takers?

Default happens both ways

Scientists are paid to keep the reasearch going, finding a result would put them out of a high paying job...

True, but this gives them incentive for doing a more thorough investigation of the report and to report their findings.
