YEsterday and today South africans awoke to a mass of e-mails claiming Former President and huge local hero, Nelson MAndela is dead. This is a flase rumour, with no basis in truth. Why would people do something like this?

Then it became clear why, as imediatly afterwards, an old, and very stupid story started spreading again. UHURU, the night of the long knives. In the beginning of the 1900's, some stupid white seer, and prophet is what he called himself, predicted, or so it is believed, that the day Nelson Mandela dies, the blacks will rise up and start killing all the whites. A huge war will start, during which many whites and blacks will die. After this war, the Afrikaners will have taken the country back. And this is why this rumour about our beloved leader was spread, to do some more fear mongering. What I don't get, is that these racists idiots, claim to be Christians, and they are not supposed to believe in people who 'see' the future!

But anyway, I just do not understand such idiots, and probably never will!

on this and other discussion pages, that affliction is in full bloom.
just look past those e-mails and posts that make you think "DuH" ... and enjoy the bright, oftentimes brilliant, correspondents and what they have to offer.

It seems to me your average member of the public is getting dumber and more gullible to the kind of hoaxes that your mentioned. Today everyone is a specialist which works fine in the work force. But few people engage in conversation, and people tend to instantly believe whatever they are told or read in print.

With so many suckers out there, a new con man is born every minute.
