Default Militants in Iraq threaten to behead South Korean hostage

http://www.cnn.com/2004/WORLD/meast/...age/index.html

They are demanding that South Korea remove its troops from Iraq or he will be beheaded.

This is absolutely sickening and I hope that people throughout the Middle East realize that Islam would never support such violent and cowardly acts.

Default .....

They won't stop, it worked with Spain. The fact that the demand is that all South Korean soldiers be removed within 24 hours or the guy gets beheaded just shows that they want to slaughter more innnocent people on video and show the world. I firmly believe that they don't want people to leave, then who would they fight?

And no, the more I learn about the scripture of the Muslim religion, I come to realize that these men are not true Muslims. They are radicals that are carrying out their evil plans and using Islam and Allah as a shield (or perhaps as a sword).

Default Makes you think...

Is it even logistically possible to withdraw 6000 troops and equipment on such sort notice, even if they wanted to? I don't think so, and I do think the kidnappers know it.

Default We don't really know about Spain

We don't know if it worked against the Spanish. The decision to send troops where very un-popular and the government would most likely have been voted out of office even without the train-bomb.

For this case I simply don't know what the avarage Koreans opinon are about sending troops to Iraq. By chance, are there any Korean here that can give us some insight into this?

Well the fact that South Koreans now hold the North Koreans in a more favorable light than Americans probably says something. I'm mean sure, the North Koreans are communist who are arming themselves with Nuclear Weapons and want to invade South Korea, but they sure are better than those (*)(*)(*)(*) Americans. Thats pretty sad, the US needs to hire a new marketing and advertising agency.

I know that South Korea is softening its view of the North, but not that they prefer a despotic regime over America as an ally. Why would they even enter into the coalition?

I read it somewhere a few weeks ago. I don't remember exactly where but it wasn't somewhere crazy. I've also seen a few people refer to it here. Most South Koreans actually believe the number one threat to their way of life is the US. This does not apply to their Gov't, just the citizens. I'll look for it and see if I can find it for you.

Default S.Korea won't make concessions

remember, they have a long history of dealing with militant organizations (N. Korea). I think these terrorists are forgetting who they are dealing with.

It will keep going on and on and on, it's a brilliant tactic for them to use.
