Default Nah, there was NO CONNECTIONS

.....and I've got some swampland for you to take a look at too!!

WASHINGTON - The Pentagon announced Friday the capture of one of al-Qaida's most senior and most experienced operatives, an Iraqi who was trying to return to his native country when he was captured.

Bryan Whitman, a Pentagon spokesman, said the captive is Abd al-Hadi al-Iraqi. He was received by the Pentagon this week from the CIA, Whitman said, but the spokesman would not say where or when al-Iraqi was captured or by whom.

The Pentagon described Al-Iraqi as an associate of al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden and as someone who may have been targeting Westerners outside of Iraq.

"Whitman said al-Iraqi was associated with leaders of other extremist groups allied with al-Qaida in Afghanistan and Pakistan, including the Taliban. He worked directly with the Taliban to determine lines of communication between Taliban and al-Qaida leaders in Afghanistan, specifically about the targeting of U.S. forces, the spokesman said.

According to biographical information provided by the Pentagon on Friday, al-Iraqi served in the Iraqi military. It said he spent more than 15 years in Afghanistan and at one point was an instructor in an al-Qaida training camp there. Before the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, he was a member of al-Qaida's ruling Shura Council, a now-defunct 10-person advisory body to bin Laden, the Pentagon said.

He also was a member of al-Qaida's military committee, which oversaw terrorist and guerrilla operations and paramilitary training, according to the Pentagon."

Wow, you found an Iraqi citizen who was a member of Al-Qaeda. Congratulations. This is no more an indication of an "Iraqi connection" to AQ than Jose Padilla is an indication of a U.S. connection. Or John Walker Lindh is an indication of a U.S. connection to the Taliban.

Honestly.

Default US connections to neo-nazism radical groups!

Members of the white power gang Aryan Brotherhood have joined the US military, too. I guess the US gov't is in cahoots with neo-nazis.

Default ...

Don't forget all the connections concerning the Jews, the Freemasons, international bankers, and the Bilderburgers in areas of government and power all over the world. Does the existence of those connections mean the conspiracy theorists are right?

So when did he become Al Qaeda? Before or after he was a major in the Iraqi army, or during the 15 years in Afghanistan/Pakistan. When did he get back to Iraq? Before or after the ill-advised US invasion?

Default Dust off another al-Qaeda leader.

Yup, just more news spin from the White House. Another top al-Qaeda leader captured. Conveniently this one is from Iraq, just at the time when Bush is battling Congress over war policy. I can hear the White House conversation now, "Hey, we need to find another al-Qaeda leader who is a real Iraqi - go find one and boost his resume so he really scares the American public again".

I'm sure you can find lots of people in Iraq who would love to kill Americans. Hah, I'm sure you can find lots of people in the US who would love to kill Muslims. This kind of news is so old, and the technique of trying to scare the public with an al-Qaeda boogie-man is so common, that I would think something was wrong if the stories like this suddenly stopped.

And as for republicans they concentrate on At-Qaeda and simply forget that other terrorism exists. Dreamily thinking that terrorism only started at Osama Bin Laden. While the US citizens are being conned into thinking all their rights will magically re-appear when the "never ending War's over"?

Interesting how you just contradicted your argument of yesterday - We should stay in Iraq because we have the Terrorists consolidated there.
And here today, you provide three links; Al qaida in Somaili, Saudi Arabia, and in Iraq.
I guess this means it's OK to get out of Iraq now, since they have disbursed since yesterday.
Thanks for clearing that up!

Default Capturing Al-Qeada leaders is good news, but...

...I think you've missed the point of this thread. JP5 is trying to show a connection between al-Qeada and Saddam because this guy served in the Iraqi military.
