I saw this article today and I thought this would make good for a swell topic.
http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/nation...t_Embassy.html Now, if you ask me what I think about this, I'll tell you it's a good thing and a bad thing so I guess that makes it a mediocre thing. The Good thing about it is it helps ensure our presence and influence in future Iraqi affairs and can be looked at as a sign that America is not giving up on Iraq. However it can also be looked at as a message that America has a very large future interest in Iraq. Oil? Maybe. Military expansion? Possibly. Government interference or control? Would go nice with the formers. It looks like they're designing it in the style of the country's architecture which is probably a good move because a Western Styled Embassy would appear to make the US look more like we're on a mission of conquest than liberation.

Enormous heavily fortified bunker-embassies are necessary to occupying powers in hostile environs. The USA will need a large and protected phalanx of drones to administer power projection from the fourteen "enduring" military bases we've installed in our vassal-state.

What happened to our embassy in Iran? Didn't the people of Iran rise up and overtake our embassy 27 years ago? What make you think that they won't do the same with this one after we spend an arm and leg of America to build it. We are planting something bigger than the vatican and is a city within a city right spack in the middle of Baghdad. I don't look for this story to go good and is going to be another bungled mistake of the Bush administration.
